What a fun and sweet romance! Zero Pucks introduces us to two characters that couldn’t be more different, had a mystery meet cute that no one remembers (alcohol in Vegas), and they were exactly what the other needed to make life changes for the better. I loved how both men were imperfectly perfect and met each other exactly where they needed the other to be, taking their pasts and disabilities at face value and right in stride. Amadeo and Tucker were so easy to love right from the start. Deo was so very sweet. Tucker’s irreverent humor and strength made this such a fun read. It starts out with so much chaos - Tucker waking up with no legs and no idea where he was. From there, the story gets so sweet and ends on a wicked punch. I adored this strangers to lovers, not quite one night stand in Vegas, accidental marriage, humorous hockey romance from start to finish.
Zero Pucks is a story of love and acceptance, of oneself and another, that greatly uses humor to lighten a heartfelt story that touches on some harder themes. Because life sometimes knocks you down and derails your life plan. What is more real than that? I love how this overall positive thread of acceptance often runs through E.M. Lindsey’s stories and fundamentally connects her MCs. This story is fun and is packed with so many surprises. As intended, I absolutely adored both the MCs and their large found family. I also appreciate E’s attention to detail with how she represents different disabilities, utilizing…
I loved the heck out of this book! The humor, found family and sweet romance of it all kept me gripped and wanting the couple to find their happily ever after. More than that I just couldn’t help but enjoy the wonderful array of characters we got introduced to along the way and I must say there is something so special about the way EM Lindsey does found family in their series. This one was no exception. I loved this story and can’t wait for more in the series!
Wonderful start to this series!
This was a married in Vegas story I didn't know I needed. Tucker had me both sympathetic to him as a character and what he’s been through in the past and rooting for him to have a bright future. I love that his disabilities don't define him or hold him back, and for the most part, he’s found ways to adapt and has a positive outlook. Deo has trash self esteem because of the relationship he’s been in with a toxic partner. The two of them together open up and become vulnerable. It’s a beautiful thing to watch these married men fall in love. I can't wait for more in this sled hockey world. I'm rooting for the side characters with all of the amazing found family vibes this series is providing. Here’s to more HEAs…
This book is a masterclass in toeing the line between a DNF and a really fun read.
The characters and plot are great. I love the representation and I love the attitude and humor of Tucker and his friends. The book starts out so strong, showing in the first chapters how Tucker can be vulnerable but also a total a-hole. His ragtag group of friends are offensive, confident, passionate, and very annoying. But somehow it just makes them all the more charming.
Amedeo was easy to like as well. You couldn’t help but root for him and hope that his journey from abusive ex to Vegas husband was going to be a good one. I love his character and how he was vulnerable and sassy at the same time. It was great reading about how he really opened up and became more confident and showed more of his true colors with Tucker and his friends.
The romance was great, the spice was fun and real, never hiding from the reality of how vulnerable you have to be as a lover with a disability.
Those are all the great parts of the book! But let’s get to the nitty gritty for a minute.
Tucker’s ex is now with his twin brother. It’s understandably messy and complicated. But when Tucker first explains how that came to happen, it all sounded fairly copacetic. So I was angry and disappointed when shortly after, she was made into a horrible ex and villain. It feels icky and gross how often female characters are made into the bad guy, especially when they are supposed to be an ex. Not to mention there were even…
Steamy insta-love para-hockey romance
This is absolutely a fluffy and steamy hockey romance, but one unlike anything I've seen before. Set as a low stakes, "woke up married" plot after a drunken night in Vegas, Amadeo follows Tucker across the country to help set the situation right, and also get away from his absolute d-bag of an ex boyfriend.
Tucker is a visually impaired double amputee who lost his NHL dreams to a stupid drunken car accident, and now plays and coaches sled and blind hockey at the amateur and semi-professional level. This is all set in a fictional universe (maybe in the very near future?!) where para-hockey teams have leagues all the way to the national professional level, and not just the Paralympics, and I am absolutely here for it. When Amadeo shows up on his doorstep, Tucker falls fast and hard and will do anything to protect him, and possibly keep him around longer.
This is a steamy insta-love story, so I did have to suspend disbelief a bit at how quickly things progressed, especially since the stakes for their relationship are never really established. However, I really enjoyed Tucker's life and team and the whole cast of characters in this book, even more so than the romance itself. Tucker's bffs and teammates are all absolute green flags, and the camaraderie between them (including teasing and call outs and not always getting along but the love is still there) is absolutely everything I love about hockey teams.
While I felt a bit less invested than I could be in this specific…
