Description

The stakes have never been higher in this breathtaking second installment of the Night and Its Moon series. Following the dramatic events of the opener, Piper CJ masterfully pushes her protagonists further into a world of flickering shadows and dangerous revelations. As the overarching mystery thickens, the narrative maneuvers through a high-octane plot where peril lurks behind every alliance, and no one is quite who they appear to be. At the heart of the story remains the intricate, emotionally charged exploration of complex identities and shifting loyalties. Readers are invited into a landscape defined by moral ambiguity, where heroes and villains blur into a spectrum of gray that keeps every turning page unpredictable. This is a journey that demands everything from the reader, oscillating with ruthless efficiency between moments of soaring triumph and devastating, gut-wrenching despair. With its sharp prose and deeply layered character dynamics, this volume evolves the series into something more profound and urgent. It is a masterful study of resilience and the cost of survival, perfect for those who crave a story that refuses to provide easy answers. Prepare for an unforgettable experience that cements the series as a must-read for fans of intense, character-driven fantasy.

Awesome

For a self published author who wrote this book in nine days, it was pretty great. For the bad: The book started off slow and had a few moments that I struggled to get through, it had some typos and run on sentences, and a good bit of repetition. I also would have loved to read more of Nox’s story. I feel like Amaris was the main focus and Nox is a side character when she should be more of the main focus and this is her story, but I hope to see more of Nox in future books. But who am I to judge, I’m no writer. For the good: I love that we got to travel to more places in this book, meet new characters, and read the plot thicken. We were introduced to new monsters, morally gray characters, and got the answers to questions and mysteries we were left with in the first book. We also got to know our side characters a little better with more POV’s than just Nox and Amaris. I usually skim through the spicy scenes so no comment there. All in all I love the story, I can live with the typos, and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and hope to read more from this author in the future as her writing grows.

Book 1 walked so Book 2 could run

Book 2 of The Night and it’s Moon series is better than the first. The author did a lot of work in book 1 building the world and laying little breadcrumbs that really paid off in The Sun and it’s Shade. Piper has a very visual and visceral style of writing that pulls your senses in and throws you directly onto the page itself. Relationships are being built and tested in a way that unravels naturally, organically, and thrilling when things finally happen. Revelations are rocking people’s world that will change 2 kingdoms forever, some of which even as a prolific reader I didn’t see coming. It’s very rare that I don’t see a twist coming in a book and am pleasantly surprised, this one did it a few different times in the best of ways. The parts I picked up the breadcrumbs for along the way were unraveled in such a way that still kept things interesting without giving everything away too soon and spoiling the fun. I screamed, I cried, and I held my breath while reading and couldn’t put it down.

Fantastic!

*REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS* I really enjoyed this story. I love reading books from two POV and this was done so well! The self-discovery journey for not only Amaris and Nox but also Gad had me hooked. I was expecting a bit more spice, but overall I thought the story was great! I am not sure of the direction that the love story is heading but it may be heading towards poly, and that would be awesome to have that represented. However, even if it is not the tension and passion is described beautifully. I didn't like that the same words were used so many times to describe things. It just felt so repetitive. Kinda reminded me of when my kids learned a new word and that's all I hear for a week lol. Still, can't wait for book 3!

You’ll need to remind yourself to breathe

Book one made you fall in love with those on the pages. Book two will makes them a part of you. I’m still shooketh from finishing the book. It has it all. Excitement, humor, sass, fear, love, passion, betrayal, heartbreak, and an axe! Seeing Nox in a deeper way was possibly my favorite over all part of the book. Seeing the deep friendships made. Now, my favorite part, well…it got a bit warm in here. ;) Piper is masterful at painting a picture so clear for you. You can see the surroundings in your minds eye. You can feel the emotions so deeply. Being able to listen to her playlists and burn the candles that smell of Nox and Amaris just brings it full circle. Make sure you read the Novellas (if you didn’t get the special edition B&N version). I’m going to go try and recover, then mourn until Book 3 (The Gloom Between Stars) is out. PS-it’s available for pre-order.

Amazing Follow-up! I was gripped from the start!

I could not put this book. As I did with the first book, I immediately began rereading this book as soon as I finished. I absolutely loved this book! I love how Piper expanded on the world of Farehold and Rascaat (I am a sucker for good world-building). I loved getting to know all the characters through the new relationships they are forming. The story took me to so many delightful and heartwrenching and unexpected places. It was amazing to see Nox and Amaris grow into their own and their power. I can't wait to see what's next to come in the series!!!
