Description

In the quiet, snow-dusted town of Stoneford, Vermont, Dr. Cole Maddox is the ultimate pillar of stability. As the town’s golden boy and a dedicated single father, Cole has spent years burying his own desires beneath a rigid, colorless routine. He is respected, reliable, and entirely repressed—until a sudden crisis forces him to hire a live-in nanny. Enter Jamie Hartwell, a vibrant artist who has just traded the high-octane frenzy of New York City for a quieter pace of life. Jamie is everything Stoneford isn’t: colorful, spontaneous, and utterly unapologetic. When he steps into the Maddox household, he doesn’t just help with homework; he begins to pick apart the carefully constructed walls Cole has built around his heart. As the lines between employer and companion dissolve over late-night confessions and domestic chaos, Cole finds himself rediscovering a version of himself he thought was long gone. But in a town where tradition is held sacred, their burgeoning romance faces mounting scrutiny and the threat of forced secrecy. Caught between societal expectations and the pull of a future in technicolor, Cole must decide if he is brave enough to break free and claim a life—and a love—that finally feels like home.

Lost in the details

At the beginning of the story Jamie is driving a Volvo that is too good for the town. Once Marce returns Cole is driving the Volvo. At the restaurant Jamie tells the librarian that Cole was a former employer. When Cole is having his meltdown he whines consistently about calling Jamie an employer at the restaurant. They are little things that should have been caught in editing but were not. I find them distracting.
