Description

Cast out by the divine and discarded by the Savior, Judas Iscariot expects only the hollow rot of the ninth circle as his eternal penance. Following the ultimate betrayal and the finality of the noose, he lands in the darkest corner of the abyss, abandoned even during Christ’s Harrowing. But in the frozen silence of his damnation, he is not met with apathy, but with the chilling gaze of the Devil himself. In this lush, gothic reimagining, the Prince of Darkness and the most infamous traitor of history find themselves locked in an unlikely, centuries-long orbit. What begins as a dismissive disdain between two eternal outcasts slowly transforms into a volatile, sensual dance of longing. Bound by the chains of their own legends and the suffocating shadows of a God who left them behind, they must navigate a landscape of cyclical suffering to find something both consider impossible: intimacy. Morgan Dante weaves a provocative, genre-bending romance that breathes new life into ancient myths. The Saint of Heartbreak is a decadent, heartbreaking exploration of what remains when you have nothing left to lose, proving that even in the deepest pits of Hell, love can be the most rebellious act of all.

Unique take on biblical lore

I loved how The Saint of Heartbreak expounds upon familiar biblical lore. The characters felt fleshed out beyond the original text and made into something unique to this book. The relationship between the Judas and the Devil is complicated, especially by Judas' traumas. How can a man damned to eternal mourning ever hope for a better future? He sinks so far into himself that it starts to test even the Devil's apathy, and, at times, my patience. It takes a long time for his personality to start to peek through, so be prepared for a slow burn on all fronts. Once the walls come down, though, these two move much faster than I'd expected. Part of me wanted them to slow back down a bit. Thanks to the Indie Ink Awards for the chance to check this book out during the judging process. While I do own a copy, I had not read it prior to judging. My review does not necessarily reflect what or how I scored the book.

3.5

It was good. I’ll probably read the novellas… it did seem like there was something missing, mainly with the world building. Was there a book before this that I missed? How it’s written, there seems to be whole story plots that predate this book that are just laid out in a brief sentence like we should have known about it before.

A stellar work of art.

This one is up there with The Song of Achilles for me—I know that’s a HUGE statement to make, but god (no pun intended) is it true!!! This is my first Morgan Dante book, and I do not foresee it being my last. I am in love with everything from the cover to the ingenious concept to the gorgeous prose. I gasped multiple times while reading this book because it genuinely took my breath away. I wish I could read it again for the first time. What a gift.
