Description

Adrik Marinov was forged in the brutal crucible of a Russian mafia dynasty. Groomed to be a monster and heir to an empire of blood, he achieved the unthinkable by walking away. But in the world of his father, Viktor Marinov, freedom is merely an illusion. Haunted by his past and marked for death, Adrik knows that as long as his lungs draw breath, he remains a target. Hans Schroeger represents everything Adrik never thought he could have. A scholarly professor residing in a quiet German coastal town, Hans has spent years curating a life of solitude and safety, finding comfort in the silence of old books. He believes he is content, yet deep down, he is simply waiting for a spark to reignite his dormant soul. When the dangerous, intense Adrik crashes into Hans’s peaceful routine, their worlds collide in an undeniable shockwave. For Adrik, Hans is an anchor of warmth in a life defined by violence. For Hans, Adrik is a visceral reminder of what it feels like to be truly alive. As they navigate the fragile intersection of their different lives, they must determine if the price of their loyalty to one another is worth the peril stalking them from the shadows.

Good story

Adrik is the favored son of the boss of a Bratva family. He does not want to take over from his father. Once his father puts a hit on him and his tutor, he runs. Once in Germany, and hopefully away from his father, he meets Hans at a bar. They become close quickly but Hans knows Adrik has secrets. Will those secrets come between Adrik and Hans? I enjoyed this story. I liked Adrik and Hans. I just wish neither had secrets and would communicate those they had. Adrik's secrets were deadlier than Hans. Hans deserved to know what might come after him. I still think Hans would have stayed with Adrik. Hans' secrets would not get them killed but Adrik deserved to know who Hans was. I myself was surprised by Hans' parents and their meddling. I wish Adrik and Hans every good thing. They deserve it.

Escaping to Germany

This started off great with Adrik finally standing up for himself. As for Hans I considered him brave like Adrik but for a different reason. Him feeling apprehensive of starting a new relationship but still seeking out Adrik was brave. While I usually don't have a problem with insta attraction I did here. Mostly because while they are drawn to each other they also both seem to have unresolved feelings for another person. And the pettiness involved wasn't my favorite either. At the end I felt like the story was inconclusive with Hans not knowing Adrik's full background. Honestly I wished the book where longer. This way there could have been more romance and allowed Adrik to fully tell his background as this would have established the couple as having trust and love.

On The Run

Adrik runs from his father's home and into the arms of Hans. While the story is great it jumps around without pause. Looking at the cover, you would never suspect what's inside. However, they do find their HEA!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
