Description

Hallie Thatcher has spent her entire life rooted in the familiar walls of The Stone’s Throw Inn, but with her parents’ recent sale of the business, her world is caught in a whirlwind of transition. Just as she prepares for a holiday trip, an interim manager arrives to hold down the fort. Hallie is braced for a temporary colleague, but she isn’t prepared for the magnetic, unassuming charm of Brynn Fitzpatrick. As the two women grow closer, Hallie finds herself facing a frustrating realization: no matter who else she dates, the bar has been irrevocably raised by a woman who is only meant to be passing through. For Brynn, the stint at the inn is a tactical retreat. Fleeing the suffocating pity of friends and family after a high-profile broken engagement, she hopes to find solace in the quiet coastal atmosphere of Stoneport. Having never truly prioritized love, Brynn is caught off guard by the profound connection she forms with Hallie. In the cozy, intimate confines of the inn, she begins to unearth desires and possibilities she previously pushed aside. As the holiday season approaches, both women must reckon with a blossoming attraction that blurs the lines between a professional favor and a life-changing choice.

What a paradox

The combination of Hallie and Brynn was written perfectly. It was definitely a SLOW BURN, but so worth it. The chemistry just kept getting stronger and stronger. You knew it had to bust eventually, and when it did - WOW. The appearance of Sydney and Reese helped the story stay on track. Their friendship with Hallie and Brynne was priceless and came in at the right time. Great read.

Checks All the Emotional Development Boxes

I really loved this book, however, "slow burn" doesn't do this justice. The wait for these two to solidify their feelings was AGONIZING, however, I am a simp for domesticity in WLW novels, so this checked every box for me in that regard. This book was packed with emotional character development and gracefully navigated the messiness of blood family with the beauty of chosen family. This book is so mature in so many aspects and hits so many beautiful plot points of finding yourself, learning to find happiness while balancing grief, understanding your place in the world, and choosing to put yourself first. Overall, I loved this book and would have rated it a 4.5* if GR would have let me, but alas. I also loved the Reese and Sydney cameos!

Perfect

Hallie and Brynn are perfect for each other. This is such a sweet romance. Love the main characters. Love the secondary characters. Really enjoyed reading characters who aren’t perfect, but are just so right together. Highly recommended!

Sweet story

This book is a very nice read that I devoured even though a bit too fluffy and sweet for my taste. It is a story about slowly falling in love, finding that perfect person that fully understands you, really falling in love for the first time ever for both. All that is good but a bit more drama would have enhanced the read for me, now Hallie and Brynn are just so perfect from the very beginning. I loved that sweet Brynn finally got her HEA after her horrible experience with Grant in The Love Lie, Hallie is her perfect match, nobody can argue about that. It was also great to get a bit more of Sydney and Reese to check in that they worked long term.

Cute story but longer than it needed to be

Main takeaway: This book is way too long for the amount of plot it has. I love a light hearted romance as much as the next girl, but if the romance is the plot, it shouldn’t be a thirteen hour audiobook. I love the premise of this book, and while I enjoyed the friends to lovers arc, there were issues that kept the book from being great. The Pining Paradox is slow to get started, and I almost DNFed after chapter 2. I pushed through and actually found the characters pretty lovable. The middle section of the book is the strongest, while the end drags on unnecessarily. The narrator wasn’t my favorite, especially her voice for Brynne, one of the FMCs. Thanks to NetGalley and Tantor for this advanced listener copy. This is a review of the audiobook.
