Heartbreaking and beautiful.

⭐️ 4.75/5 🌶️ 3/5 Main characters: Jamie, Caiden, & Cooper Side characters: Sage, Darius, Oliver First person, dual POV (Jamie & Caiden). I really liked this one. It was extremely emotional given what happens in the story. Very heartbreaking. I liked how the author gave us time to be with Cooper in the first part of the book. It made his loss and the impact of that loss on the other characters much more visceral and understandable. We experience “first hand” the before of everything and I think that was an essential part of the storytelling. Jamie is just a wonderful character. He clearly loves with his whole heart and it just flows out of him. When he is in love, he is unable to hide his affection and it is a really beautiful thing to see. And Caiden is so dynamic. He has quite the arc of growth throughout the story. He was so angry and standoffish in the beginning and then in the third part of the book, he just made a decision to live and to grab at what makes him happy, as is expressed in the book. I felt his mental health struggle was represented well and I liked how he didn’t resist seeking out help when pushed to do so. I really liked how Jamie talked about every tiny decision and all the little paths leading them to where they end up. So many intricate things that determine how something plays out. It’s devastating that he and Caiden had to experience the loss that they did, but from that loss they found the deepest love in each other.

Absolutely heartbreaking but so worth it

4⭐️ Wow... this book really did a number on me. I swear I lost count of how many times I ugly cried after Part 2. The first half focuses mostly on Jamie and Cooper’s relationship, which was sweet and emotional. Then Part 2 shifts to Jamie and Caiden, for the *after* and that was just... a whole other level of heartbreak. Jamie was meant to be in both Cooper and Caiden’s lives, but for such different reasons. You really feel how each connection changed them in different ways. Caiden’s journey, though... that was so hard to read at times. His pain, his growth, all of it was written so thoughtfully. Also, Cooper’s chapter? Brutal. That one gutted me. The way the characters processed grief and tragedy. It never felt rushed or dramatized for effect. It was raw and honest and incredibly moving. My only criticism is that this really did feel like two separate books packed into one. I kind of wish each story had more room to breathe. But honestly, it’s beautifully written, and the emotional depth is just unreal. If you’re in the mood for something intense, sad, and full of love in all its complicated forms, this one’s for you.

Absolutely Fantastic!

This book was really beautiful. I was surprised by this one honestly. I had an idea of what it was about and had read some critiques so I stayed away. I’m usually not a fan of second best/dead partner books to be honest, but this one definitely worked. I really loved the author’s writing and how they delivered the story. The audiobook was fantastic as well.

Absolutely a Wonderful Read!

I can not compliment this book enough. I also can not tell you how many times I had to take deep breaths to stop myself from crying! Caiden and Jamie’s story actually begins as Cooper and Jamie’s story. There’s a divorce trauma for twins Cooper and Caiden, as they each favor a different parent-Caiden for all the wrong reasons. Caiden watches as Cooper falls in love with Jamie, and as their families blend, he digs in his heels. Then the accident, which actually occurs in the epilogue and then reappears later. Cooper’s death deeply affects Caiden, Jamie, and their family. Words are slung around in the agony of grief and years pass before Caiden’s actions brings Jamie around again. Both Caiden and Jamie have their own demons to fight as they slowly begin to orbit each other. As I said, tears were a part of reading this book. However, the tears aren’t just due to tragic events or very sweet actions, but due to the author’s word choice in telling us about it. I’ve read many awful things in many books, but tears aren’t always a given. However, this author has such a talent for describing these terrible things, and how the characters are feeling, and that talent brings the tears. The characters are really well written. I very much liked Jamie’s strong, sure, and supportive character, but appreciated he wasn’t written as a saint. Caiden has been so messed up for so long, but again, he wasn’t written as a total write-off. All the secondary characters are also well written. I can…

Heart-wrecking yet hopeful.

The emotional ride I cracked this open expecting angst, but C.S. Autumn strapped me into a full-tilt roller-coaster. Jamie is sunshine-soft and ready to spend his life with Cooper—the bright twin everyone gravitates toward—when one split-second tragedy obliterates the future he’d mapped out. In the wreckage, the shadows he’s always half-noticed in Caiden (Cooper’s darker half) sharpen into painful clarity. Autumn nails the whiplash of grief: anger flares, words land like shrapnel, and you suddenly find yourself clinging to the person who should be off-limits. What saved me from “love-triangle fatigue” is the groundwork the author lays early—those stolen glances and unspoken sparks between Jamie and Caiden aren’t random; they’ve been simmering for years. What stole my heart • Twin bond done right. It isn’t always rosy in fiction, but here Cooper and Caiden’s devotion feels unbreakable. Cooper’s ability to soothe Caiden’s storms (and vice versa) gutted me in the best way. • Unflinching mental-health depiction. Caiden’s self-harm and the hollow ache of feeling unwanted by his mother come through with raw honesty—never glamorized, always empathetic. • Messy, believable grief. Jamie’s bitterness, Caiden’s guilt, the lashing-out moments—so real I had to breathe through them. Why it’s not quite five stars I needed just a bit more page time after Jamie returns. Caiden’s lifelong feelings are hinted at, but we never get that cathartic confession that would prove their love…
