Description

For the wallflower of his high school, life is a quiet struggle defined by an unsupportive home life and a desperate plan to escape his dead-end neighborhood. He has mastered the art of being invisible, staying under the radar until a chance encounter at a party forces him to step out of the shadows. Seeing the school’s golden boy, Ethan, sitting alone and detached, he makes a spontaneous decision to check on him—a simple act of kindness that shatters the boundaries of his lonely world. Ethan, popular and surrounded by peers yet profoundly isolated, is struck by this sudden, genuine concern. What begins as an unlikely spark of friendship quickly deepens when Ethan witnesses the cruelty directed at his new friend. To protect him and flip the script on his senior year, Ethan suggests an elaborate ruse: they will pretend to be boyfriends. As they navigate the performance of romance, the lines between fiction and reality begin to dissolve. Amidst the pressure of hostile classmates and the weight of their own hidden truths, the two boys are forced to confront their growing feelings. Taking Care of You is a poignant exploration of identity, connection, and the risks of opening up when the whole world seems intent on tearing you apart.

A sugary sweet story

I just want to say i was waiting for the toxic/ negative shoe to drop from the moment the formed a relationship especially in the way things formed and I'm pleasantly surprised that it did not Happen thank you for writing a beautiful story about connections that formed slowly and still giving the characters issues that mattered. I really found myself happy that Jakoby, who i saw myself in, got the story he deserved. Loved the community around them and how they didn't diminish each other's shine.

Sweet Fake To Real Love

Ethan befriends Jakoby and becomes his “boyfriend” to help protect him from bullying. Over time real feelings develop. It was a sweet story. A bit of angst, sweet comedy and I wish stories like these happened more in the real world:)

First and Last Love

Koby is crushing on Ethan who's straight but a kind teen and wants to be his friend. He even pretended to be Koby's boyfriend to protect him but their relationship and feelings become so much more. Koby is trying to survive until he can get to college on his scholarship with only one friend before Ethan. Ethan opens a whole new world giving Koby confidence, joy, support and even love. It's a sweet first and last love story with angst in Koby's background and wonderful friends

So enjoyable 💛

Two young boys meet, and they just are each other’s person! I love that! So much 💛 It’s a pretty low angst story, but there’s some heavy topics in here that hits me straight in the heart! So check your triggers! I love that the author wrote this story, and how she wrote it with respect for their age. It comes off as very truthfully for me. The found family is present, and the friends group is just amazing and so supportive 💛

Well written, Low Angst

Ethan, the star football player, befriends Jakoby. Jakoby thinks Ethan is only there because he feels sorry for the gay kid who nobody sees. Time goes on & their friendship grows into something more. A touching story about first loves & how opposites can attract. Well written, low angst. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
