Great summer romance read!
I really enjoyed this book! The banter was really good, the timeline of their relationship was super realistic. Keiran was such a gentleman and had me giggling kicking my feet every other page. Cherry was such a boss babe, I love her. The pettiness between the two of them was on another level, but also somehow just the right amount of petty.
I really loved all the queer rep. I feel like sometimes authors just write in a token queer character with all straight friends and call it a day. When in reality, “queers find queers”, we normally find our community with other queer people and stick together. So all the queer S/O, friends, and family members really warmed my heart. The community and support they showed each other was perfect.
I thought the ending was super rushed, not enough groveling for a third act breakup. However, I thought the reason for the breakup was unnecessary. I wish Keiran’s relationship with his dad and music business could have been a bit more fleshed out. Overall, I highly recommend this book!
This was so flipping sweet (pun completely intended).
Set in Trinidad, Sweethand follows Cherisse, a passionate pastry chef, and her childhood enemy and local music producer, Keiran, as they find themselves thrown together as Maid of Honour and Best Man for Cherisse's sister's wedding.
Aside from Cherisse and Keiran's incredible chemistry, there's a whole cast of dynamic characters including a second romance which I'm hoping we will get to see more of in N.G Peltier's upcoming work.
Like with most romances, we do have an unnecessary final conflict in the final act which didn't feel needed but I've come to accept that it's a staple of the romance genre.
Recommend if you enjoy:
- food references (honestly get snacks ready because this book will make you hungry)
- enemies to lovers
- books centred around weddings
- dual POVs
- steamy scenes
- bisexual representation
Does what it says on the tin
Sweet as sugar but struggles a bit in the climax and denouement. This is a fun enemies-to-lovers romp with sweet treats and soca. It was refreshing to read about contemporary Caribbean characters, complete with food and accents! Just as good a rom com as any other debut of the last 3 years. 3 stars for entertainment and nostalgia, with some forgiveable imperfections.
Fun, contemporary romance. Must read.
Fun, contemporary romance. Must read if you like romcoms.
It’s the classic hate to love trope. The characters are believable and the back and forth give and take between Cherisse and Keiran is a fun ride. The Trinidad setting is perfect backdrop in which to fall in love.
Plus, this book was recommended by Talia Hibbert at Kisscon. You can’t go wrong.

Finally a Caribbean romance series
I adored these characters. Great chemistry and sexy novel. I already read book two and I am anxiously waiting on the author to complete book three in the series. One of my favourites.
