Description

Leo Thorne is the grumpy closer for the Bridgeport Jetties, a man who treats the pitcher’s mound like a fortress and his privacy like a sacred vow. He has no room in his life for distractions, especially not the new kid, Elias Vance. Elias is sunshine personified, a talented rookie whose infectious grin and relentless optimism are enough to drive any serious athlete to the brink of insanity. Forced to share space as they climb the ranks in the minor leagues, the two men collide in a storm of heated arguments and competitive fire. What begins as a bitter rivalry quickly shifts into something far more dangerous. Beneath the locker room banter and the tension of the diamond, both men are hiding heavy pasts and scars they refuse to show the world. As they are pushed together by circumstance, the walls they have carefully constructed start to crumble. Their journey from enemies to something much deeper is a slow-burn rollercoaster of laugh-out-loud humor, raw vulnerability, and undeniable chemistry. This is a story about finding an anchor in the chaos, healing old wounds through unexpected connection, and realizing that the person you despise most might just be the only one who can save you.

Baseballs and big bootys, what more can you ask for???

This book had me googling "men in baseball pants" just to FULLY appreciate the pull these two had on each other... and let me tell you, it was GLORIOUS. Why aren’t there more baseball books out there?! This was everything. I was so invested in Jeb and Shane that I’m pretty sure I created an entire mental mood board for them. Their story of growth, self-discovery, and navigating past trauma was such a treat to witness. I’ve never seen two characters who needed each other more. When I think of a relationship that truly makes both people better, these two will always come to mind. Jeb Stone is the definition of a lost soul. M. Colette captures the overpowering, drowning nature of grief so beautifully—that pressure in your chest that expands until it fully surrounds you. Jeb is functioning, but he’s darkened by a pain he’s just learned to live around. He’s ready to take down anyone who threatens his spot on the team... especially the endlessly smiley, blue-eyed cutie who won’t leave him alone. Shane Michaels is a living, breathing version of a smile. He’s full of life and joy, but even the brightest lights cast shadows. While he wears a massive smile, the light doesn't always reach his eyes—and the only person who notices is the one man he’s competing against. Shane is desperate for the respect he never got from the father who walked out on him, even if it means beating the super sexy man who has him questioning everything he thought he knew about his sexuality. Such a beautiful story

What a rollercoaster of emotions. This book had me laughing hysterically then pissed then crying and finally swooning. All in the span of minutes. Shane was the perfect example of the happiest people are always the ones hurting the most. Shane was a walking ray of sunshine for everyone who knew him. But nobody saw how much pain he was hiding. From being abandoned by his father to being told all his life he was worthless for being poor. How he managed to always have a smile on his face was beyond me. I don’t think I would have been so positive if I was in his shoes. Jed was the complete opposite. He was a walking dark cloud who forgot what it was like to smile after losing his father. He had lost the only person in the world who loved and cared about him. The one with whom he shared a dream that would never come true. But no matter how gloomy Jed wanted to be, he had no chance. Shane’s light was too bright for him to ignore. He tried so hard to keep Shane at arms length but Shane managed to warm himself into Jed’s life. He gave him back that smile he lost years ago. I loved that Shane not only brought sunshine into Jed’s life, but he also gave him…
