Description

Verity Hill and Wright "Monk" Bellamy were once the defining chapter of each other's lives, a college romance that burned bright before collapsing into wreckage. Years later, Verity has carved out a name as an award-winning screenwriter, while Monk has ascended to global fame as a transformative musical force. When the two are tapped to collaborate on a high-stakes, star-studded biopic about the Harlem Renaissance, the professional stakes are as colossal as the emotional ones. For Verity, the reunion is an unexpected chance to confront the ghost of a love she never quite outgrew. For Monk, the bitterness of their past betrayal has never truly faded, leaving him guarded and wary of the woman who once held his entire world in her hands. Forced into a cramped, high-pressure creative environment, the undeniable electricity between them begins to rewrite the script of their present. As the production pushes them to their limits, they must navigate the tension between their artistic brilliance and their complicated history. In this searing, sophisticated second-chance romance, Kennedy Ryan masterfully explores the weight of long-held secrets, the fluidity of desire, and whether two hearts can truly find their rhythm after a decade of silence.

Score Book Review

There are books that entertain you for a weekend and then there are books that sit with you long after you’re done reading it. Score will sit with me for a very long time. As a creative, I loved being able to see myself through these characters eyes. Kennedy Ryan has a gift for wrapping heavy truths inside of beautiful storytelling. She is an expert at putting candy in the medicine. You come in expecting romance and chemistry, but underneath the love story is a much deeper conversation about mental health, identity, vulnerability, and what it really means to love someone beyond the beautiful parts. What impacted me most was the portrayal of bipolar disorder through Verity’s character. There were moments that felt mesmerizing. Brilliant. Electrifying but then the curtain is gently pulled back and forces you to sit with the other side of it too. the fear the instability. The weight carried not only by the person struggling, but also by the people who love them. I honestly feel like I learn something new about the world every time I read one of her stories and that’s what made this book feel so honest to me. This story challenged me in ways I didn’t expect. It made me think about how quickly society celebrates people when their pain looks artistic or productive, yet struggles to show compassion once that same pain becomes difficult, inconvenient, or frightening. Although there is a lot of emotional heaviness this book carries, it still leaves room for hope, growth,…

Monk is EVERYTHING!!!! 😝😝😝😝

I LOVED IT SO MUCH!!!!!!! It has been quite a while since a romance has made me feel anything. So much of romance feels like the same story being told over and over again. NOT THIS TIME!! Verity and Monk's story is so beyond the realm of typical love story. It is so grand and beautiful and real, and raw that I know I will never forget it. From Reel, I already loved Monk. In that book he was witty, and intelligent and irresistable. I needed him to still be that in this book and he was all that and more!!!! I was obsessed with him from start to finish. His character was so lovable and incredible. I love him!!!!! Verity was so relatable. As someone that has a mental illness that I didn't understand until.much later in life, I appreciated so much of her story and the way it was told. I like that mental illness was discussed with some grace and not as if its something bad. It is a more apart of our life than we think, especially in the Black community and a diagnosis does not have to be the end of the world. Getting help doesn't have to be the end of the world. Great, great read!!!!! I know I will rwad it again, because there is no way I am living without Monk!! Five Stars!!!!

WHEW

This is the story of Monk and Verity, two people that came together, fell apart, and came back together. Not gonna lie…this book was tough to get through. The depiction of bipolar disorder was hard. The author really takes you into the mind of someone going through a manic phase, and readers can see the crash coming. It’s really tough. I had to remind myself I was reading a romance and that every romance has an HEA. But the way Monk and Verity love each other is worth the journey it takes for them to get there. I read this book in three days, having a full time job and two kids. I couldn’t put it down. It was that good. The character arcs were flawless. The story is witty, heartbreaking, and full of passion. The way this author uses words is masterful and will be studied for years to come. 10/10, highly recommend. Thank you, Kennedy Ryan, for getting me out of my reading slump!

SCORE is a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This story is a Masterpiece! There is so much to digest! Monk and Verity are the kind of people you hope to meet in real life…..talented, overcomers, gifted, fighters, not caught up in the glitz and glamour of the lives they live in. Kennedy Ryan has taken a mental condition that is not common to the average person, and yet exposed it to real-life situations, and how it’s navigated on a day-to-day basis. Kudos to her! Plus, the story inside the story…Black history at its finest … has its place in this enthralling novel also. SCORE is a masterpiece on many levels. I highly recommend it.

Score by Kennedy Ryan was a full 5 stars for me because Kennedy Ryan did what she always does so beautifully. She gives you romance, chemistry, heat, and emotion, but then hands you something bigger to sit with after you close the book. Verity’s mental health journey was educational and honest in a way that felt important. It showed that sometimes knowing something is wrong in your spirit and body matters, even when people around you do not immediately understand it. It reminded me how important it is to trust yourself, have a support system that loves you loudly, a therapist who helps guide you, and doctors who listen, advocate, and believe you. As a Black man, Monk’s role in that journey felt especially powerful because there are conversations around…
