I loved Poetry On Ice! It was such a fun read. Not only was it steamy but I laughed often too. That’s the perfect mix for me. Robbie and Ant had great chemistry. From their angry brawls early on to their spicy scenes together, they were explosive. I loved how it turned from them being Rivals to Ant accepting that he was falling for Robbie even though he “was not a relationship guy”.
Christmas at the McGuires was amazing ❤️ It was wonderful to see the quiet acceptance from Robbie’s parents because they recognized what was really between them even though they were trying not to be obvious about it.
I also loved how the team knew as well and were so accepting. It was such a feel good moment when they tried to announce it in the locker room but the team immediately started hooting and hollering before they even had a chance to say anything. They were so worried they wouldn’t be accepted but it was just the opposite.
If you’re looking for a swoony read with plenty of laughs, great spicy scenes and fabulous banter, this one is it

Lightness with Substance Hockey Romance
📖 Poetry On Ice by Jesse H Reign
Rating: ★★★¾
There are books that demand your full attention, and then there are books that arrive precisely when you need them, light enough to carry you through but substantial enough to linger. This one found me in that in-between space, and for that moment, it was exactly right.
I came seeking a hockey MM romance, drawn by the promise of ice and rivalry and the particular alchemy that happens when enemies discover something deeper beneath their antagonism. Jesse H. Reign delivered on that expectation with a story that moves at a confident pace, never dragging but never rushing the moments that matter. The enemies-to-lovers arc between Ant and Robbie unfolds with witty dialogue and genuine chemistry, their transformation from rivals to something more tender feels earned. The banter crackles with energy, each exchange revealing layers beneath the surface-level antagonism, and their connection deepens in ways that feel both inevitable and surprising.
Yet honesty requires me to acknowledge the stumble at the beginning. The initial seduction felt forced, a rushed intimacy that hadn't yet been built by the emotional foundation the story would later establish. Perhaps that's just my preference speaking, my tendency to reach for heavier reads where every moment of connection is hard-won. But as the narrative progressed, the relationship found its authentic rhythm. The push-pull dynamic revealed vulnerabilities in both characters, Ant's…

Poetry on Ice is Pure Poetry
This book was simply amazing. If one could marry a book I would totally marry this one because it was that good. If been singing Jesse H Reign’s praises since I read Sainted in 2023 and she has not disappointed me. All her books are amazing. So of course when I found out she was releasing a hockey book I just had to immediately read it. Everything about this book was great, the writing, just like the title of the book was simply poetic, the banter, the angst, the anticipation is all there. The love, the laughs and the spice. Oh the spice is top shelf.
Other things I loved about Poetry on Ice:
-The way Robbie and Ant are so obsessed with each other
-The way Robbie is so sure of his feelings for Ant and that they’re reciprocated
-The way Ant is so helpless when it comes to Robbie
- The jokes about the cage masks (cause omg IYKYK and it’s just hilarious that Jesse faced this head on and made fun of it!
Anyway, I loved this one a lot. It’s right now ,y favorite book of the year so far. I can’t wait for what comes next from Jesse!
“I like Ant Decker. I like him like crazy. I like him in a big, scary way that I know in my bones is a big deal. A big thing. The next big thing in my life. He may not feel it yet. Hell, he may not even know what we are yet, but I do. I know things. I know feelings. And this thing between us is as real as anything I’ve ever felt.”
grumpy black cat x himbo golden retriever 🤩
Jesse H Reign’s Poetry On Ice is a sizzling enemies-to-lovers hockey romance that delivers exactly what fans of the genre crave. This story follows the tumultuous relationship between Ant Decker, a brooding and antagonistic hockey player, and Robbie McGuire, a sunshine-y and playful rival who’s been on his bad side for years. When Robbie is traded to Ant’s team, the tension is palpable, with the two players constantly at odds, both verbally and physically. But what begins as pure animosity slowly unravels into a combustible chemistry neither of them can deny.
Reign expertly plays with familiar tropes—grumpy x sunshine, forced proximity, and biawakening—to create a dynamic that keeps the reader hooked, despite the plot’s relatively simple structure. Coach’s decision to make them room together on away games and practice alone eventually forces the duo to find common ground. As their animosity morphs into something much deeper, Poetry On Ice becomes a delicate balance of slow-burn attraction and intense emotional growth.
The interplay of their personalities is one of the book’s greatest strengths. Ant, the classic grumpy player, tries to maintain control of his emotions but finds himself losing that battle against Robbie’s relentless charm. Robbie, on the other hand, embraces his bratty side, fully aware of the effect he has on Ant. The slow evolution from enemies to lovers is full of tension and heat.
While the plot isn’t particularly complex, it doesn’t need to be. Reign’s…
3.5 ⭐️s - A good start to the series
I’ve read a few Reign books and I have always come out of them either satisfied or pleasantly surprised. This book falls in the former category. It’s fun, it’s cute, it’s a little bit sexy. It is what it is.
That said, this book is about the relationship between our two MCs. Not much else.
May contain spoilers:
If you want to know the truth, they play a little hockey, they have a little Christmas dinner, they become a little bit of the snoopy neighbors. It’s all mostly adorable. But that’s about it. There’s no overarching plot other than the romance and the (could’ve been more) spicy scenes. Don’t even expect much in terms of the enemies-to-lovers trope. They get over that (and under each other) pretty quickly.
Read it if you’re looking for a low angst, easy, satisfying read.
