Description

Professional rugby teammates Leo and Silas have spent years perfecting their public bromance, but behind closed locker room doors, their connection is anything but platonic. They have mastered the art of hiding their intense chemistry from the media, their coaches, and even themselves, keeping their buried feelings firmly in the realm of friendship. However, the delicate balance of their secret arrangement begins to crumble when professional pressures and personal reckonings threaten to pull them apart. As the stakes on the field reach an all-time high, the emotional cost of pretending becomes impossible to ignore. What started as a fleeting spark has grown into a profound, undeniable bond that neither man can afford to suppress any longer. Playing for Keeps is an emotionally charged exploration of identity, courage, and the messy, beautiful reality of falling for your best friend. Jax Calder masterfully balances the high-octane intensity of the sports world with the vulnerable, slow-burn tension of a relationship teetering on the edge. It is a heartfelt story about the risks of choosing love in the public eye and the transformational power of finally deciding that some things are worth playing for, even if it means risking everything.

Angsty sports romance

This book had so many of my faves, a nice amount of angst, best friends, sports romance. I have enjoyed the previous books in the series and didn’t think Aiden and Tyler could be surpassed as my faves but hello Luke and Ethan! So much angst and drama that kept me on the edge for pretty much the whole book waiting for the other shoe to drop. Luke and Ethan have so many issues to work through which is set against their history as former best friends. How do you reach a point of forgiveness and coming to terms with the past to move on to a brighter future with so much hurt in the way. I couldn’t imagine a HEA more well deserved than for these two characters. Love the set up for the characters in the next book and can't wait for Jonathan's story. I received an early copy of this book and this is my honest and fair review.

So good!!!!

Jax Calder is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I just love everything I have read of hers. Playing for keeps is the third book in the sporting secrets series. Ethan and Luke were the best of friends until Ethan got Luke’s twin sister char pregnant. Luke left and now he’s back trying to make the national rugby team team. They can’t seem to stop being in each other’s Sphere. These two are drawn to each other even if there’s resistance they just can’t help it. My heart just breaks for Ethan and Luke, they struggle so much. It’s so sad they just seem to circle each other around and around but never meet each other in the middle. It’s so frustrating 😩 I loved this story so much, didn’t want to put it down. I was griped from the start and I kept getting the fuzzies. It’s heart warming and heart breaking all in one breath. The Rugby is also quite exciting and I really enjoyed that aspect of the story. I’m so glad Ethan and Luke got their HEA. I never thought it was going to happen. I’m so happy to hear there will be a fourth book in this series. Yay 🎉🎊😀 I have received an ARC through GRR and this is my honest opinion.

3.5 stars

This one was a little harder for me to get through. I think that they were a perfectly fine couple and were likeable characters. There was just a lot of inner turmoil and a lot of trying to figure out what the other person is feeling instead of actually communicating. If all we see as the reader is the couple being intimate, I'm confused about how they spend rest of their time. Are they actively avoiding "the talk" or are they completely mute? I do still enjoy the author's writing and will look for future work from her but I hope she avoids the 11th hour break up in her next Sporting Secrets book. On a side note, I saw a review mention that they felt there should have been a trigger warning because they felt that the sex between Char and Ethan was dub con at best, on her part. I don't think that's true. Yes Ethan was drinking but it's never mentioned in the book that he was drunk. As it was written, Char may have set out to seduce Ethan on purpose but at the end of the day, they were both adults who consented to have sex for their own reasons. Also, just want to say for anyone worried about it (as I was), this book does not contain cheating! Johnathan was really great and I'm glad he will be getting his HEA!
