Description

Wren has spent his life defying the rigid structures of Nexus, wearing his rebellious reputation like armor. While he outwardly plays the part of the dissident, his true devotion lies in the creatures he rescues and the one person who saw past his defiance: Teddy. To the authorities at Nexus, Teddy is the golden boy—the pinnacle of discipline and grace. But beneath that polished exterior lies a man who committed the ultimate transgression: falling in love with a rebel. Forced apart by a system that demands absolute obedience, Wren and Teddy have survived a grueling decade fueled only by the fading memories of each other. The distance was meant to break them, to refine their spirits, and to bury their forbidden connection once and for all. But when a dangerous, high-stakes case forces their paths to collide, the spark they thought extinguished catches fire once more. As they navigate a treacherous reunion, the pair must decide if their love is a vulnerability to be exploited or their greatest strength. In a world designed to crush their bond, can they rewrite their ending, or is their forced separation destined to be permanent? This is a story of resilience, defiance, and the enduring power of a love that refuses to fade.

Suspenseful romance

I have loved every book in this series. While childhood friends to lovers and second chance romance are two tropes I generally don't like, A.M. Rose's execution and subversion of tropes alongside the fantastical mystery of it all makes Once Bitten a very enjoyable romantic mystery. Each book in this series feels very unique while still connecting to an overarching plot. I love how the authors have built their world and magic system to the point that it makes total sense even when each book also introduces some new discovery about that same magic system. Even though the mystery plot of the story wasn't as mind-blowing in my opinion, it's just because the bar has been set so high in their other books! There was still plenty of suspense and the way everything tied in to the larger plot perfectly sets up the next book. Each of the books follows one cursebreaker from a team of misfit cursebreakers. Once Bitten is about Wren, the cursed animal specialist. At the end of a previous book, he sees someone that he was close to at Nexus and you can tell that there is something up. Both Wren and Teddy were shaken to see each other and we quickly find out that it's because they were involved. But it's a huge rule for cursebreakers that they can't have any romantic connection to another cursebreaker and there would be major consequences if higher ups knew. The authors really drive home just how impossible Wren and Teddy's relationship feels based on the system they grew up in and it's…

Loveable characters

4,5 ⭐️🫶 I have always been a fan of AM Rose and the way they write these stories, and this book is no exception. This is Book 4 on the Cursebreakers Inc. Series and they should be read in order, because all of these stories are part of an overarching plot. Now, Wren and Teddy ! <3 I honestly loved these babies so much and this has been a second chance romance written to perfection. I've always been a fan of longing and yarning and this book just delivers those feelings beautifully. The way you can feel from the very first pages how Wren was yarning for Teddy is heartbreaking. This is the perfect black cat (I only love animals and very few people) vs his equally obsessed protector, who are standing against the world itself to defend and solidify their bond.

Great addition to the series!

I loved Once Bitten by A. M. Rose. It's the fourth book in the Cursebreakers, Inc. series. I loved Teddy and Wren's story. I totally get why Wren's was mad at Nexus for how he was treated and how they separated him from his best friend and secret boyfriend. I loved their nicknames for each other and how they interacted with the team members in their group. I seem to be especially drawn to the unhinged ones, like Eerie and Black. I also loved that Wren could talk to and understand animals, which was why he was the Cursed Animals cursebreaker of the Slatehollow team. I also loved how charismatic Teddy was and the bond he had with Saint, who was the Cursed Animal cursebreaker on his team in Arcstead. I loved how Wren dealt with the villain in this story. It was very fitting. And I was glad Gwen, the head of Nexus, got her eyes opened to the problems going on in her organization and was willing to fix them. I also loved the letters Teddy wrote to Wren and how they agreed to start at the first letter written after they were separated and read one each day until they got to when they got back together. Now I need to go back and read the rest of the series. I read this book using the Kindle unlimited app.

Great story

"Once Bitten", book four in the Cursebreakers Inc series is a whole tissue type story. Quite heart wrenching. Second chance, forbidden love... arghh. You get pining (and some tears) starting with two, written but never mailed letters. They were separated as children when it was discovered they were in love. The ultimate cruelty was that for years they were only as far as a town away from each other. From book one, this series has been a pleasure to read. A house that wants to harm you to people being injected with animal venom, the stories are original. Good quick reads. Sizzling relationships. Great found family. Twisty tension with a not so easily guessed plot. "Bitten" has all that. In a rather bittersweet fashion. Teddy and Wren's relationship teetered very close to the edge. Honestly, I was preparing myself for a Romeo and Romeo type tragic ending. It was their second chance, but so much hurt and a little bit (a lot) of anger had to be gotten through first. And while they're working things out, some Nexus jerk hole is working against them. The glossary at the end of the book was in keeping found family straightened out. The two teams and their partners are quite a bit for brain juggling. And also fodder for several more tales. I received an advanced readers copy and this my review.
