Description

Fifteen years of professional hockey has taught veteran player Julian one vital rule: keep your head in the game and your true self buried at all costs. With retirement on the horizon, he just needs to survive one last season without his long-guarded secret surfacing. That is, until the arrival of Stryker Bell, a cocky young rookie whose presence on the ice is as magnetic as his personality is infuriating. Stryker is everything Julian knows he should avoid—he’s young, reckless, and alarmingly attentive. Their proximity in the locker room quickly turns the air between them electric, transforming simple practice sessions into unspoken dares. When the pressure of a losing streak finally snaps Julian’s restraint, a single, desperate moment of physical vulnerability irrevocably changes their relationship. What begins as a blur of stolen moments quickly deepens into a terrifyingly real connection. Julian finds himself caught between the safety of his silent, hollow closet and the vibrant life Stryker represents. As he navigates old, buried trauma that threatens to dismantle his career, Julian must decide if he is willing to risk everything he has built to finally embrace the man who makes him want to stop hiding.

Good read

This is my first book from this author and I really liked it. The characters were believable and interesting especially Bell. Their relationship was touching and sweet. I usually don’t like age gap romances but in this case it added to the story and didn’t bother me ( you could see how their age affected their perspective and life story). Definitely would recommend this and can’t wait to read more from this author!

HOT

This book had me sweating- so hot! I loved to banter and the spice but I also loved the character development and the growth in the relationship.

Needed more work

This book was kind of all over the place. There were some promising elements, but I started rolling my eyes at the clunky "the Austin Aces, the NHL team I played for" on page one (followed by the worse "Jack 'Viggy' Vignier" in chapter one). Going back to find those details reminded me that there were whole plot elements that were introduced and then disappeared entirely, and blah blah blah. The sex was raunchier than I prefer, but that's a matter of personal taste. I think there could be a solid story here, but it needed a lot more developmental work. My thanks to Gay Romance Reviews for a complimentary copy of this book.

Enemies to lovers (kind of) Age gap I enjoyed it for the most part. I liked the writing. And while I can never understand the absolute fear Ethan had about coming out, Bell had the patience of a saint. Ethan needed therapy for what he went thru and the trauma he suffered. I honestly thought he wouldn’t ever be able to admit him and Bell were together. It was a story I’m sure happens often sadly. Ethan was unhappily ready to live in the closet for the rest of his life. But Bell was the strike Ethan needed, the push to grab that happily ever after for himself.
