Description

Harper lives a life partitioned by his father’s iron-fisted expectations. Every move is calculated, every desire suppressed, and every ambition mapped out long ago. He has no space for chaos, and Benny “The Bear” Forrester is nothing but pure, unadulterated chaos. Benny, once a formidable fighter sidelined by a devastating injury, sees Harper not as a mark or a pawn, but as the only reason left to breathe. Their connection is a spark that threatens to incinerate the carefully structured world Harper has been forced to inhabit. But defiance comes with a lethal price tag. As Harper struggles to reconcile his newfound agency with the suffocating reality of his family’s empire, Benny realizes that the matches he won in the ring were mere warm-ups for the battle now at hand. To win the man he loves, Benny must dismantle the formidable forces determined to tear them apart. In this intense second installment of the Runaways series, loyalty, survival, and forbidden passion collide. It is a gritty exploration of what happens when two people decide that the life they were promised is worth destroying for the sake of the life they choose together.

Benny is so perfect!

If you read the first and had to come back for more, you’ll be thrilled to know that even though the vibe is a bit different, the story is just as good if not better. I absolutely loved Harper and Benny which was a relief because the little bit of Harper that we got in the first book… well, I wasn’t sold on him as a main character. Glad to be wrong! Getting to see where these books intersect from another perspective was also really enjoyable. 4.5 stars for me and I can’t wait for the next.

Prince and Bear

The emotional depth Marlow brings to the "renegade" archetype feels so refreshing because it isn't just about rebellion. It's an ode to the terrifying cost of loyalty and the bravery it takes to choose yourself and your person over the world. I was pulled in on page 1 and by halfway I was consumed by the burn. If you're looking for a story that is gritty and deeply romantic, this is it. It's dark and intense and the way Benny and Harpy find their missing pieces in each other is incredibly rewarding and so well deserved.
