Beta Read.
When I beta read, it takes me a lot longer to read. I’m constantly thinking about hyphens (HYPHENS, SARAH!!) and homonyms. So I can’t really binge read like I usually do with any other read.
Except this one. I honestly could not put it down. Sorry to my spouse, I had no time for anything else. All things High Seas for about 36 hours.
High Seas Heat was just…entertaining? Yes, there are some ridiculous antics and over-the-top alpha- and omega-ness, but it all felt low stakes. I never worried how Claire and her pack would end up, and I knew there would be plenty of knots and bonding bites to share. I was just along for the ride (insert a cruise pun here) and it was a fun one.
Sarah knows this, but usually her betas are my favorite of all the characters. And for once, I’ve fallen for a grumpy, awkward, lumberjack alpha. He just wants to spoil everyone and that is 100% my jam. Forrest, you’re my favorite.
And nowwwwwww I need her brother’s book. I already know it’s gonna have me in chokehold.

Because this NY princess, only daughter of a wealthy family, a family comprised of a full pack, has always envisioned her future with her own pack, she ventures to pursue obtaining that pack by booking a suite on a specialized voyage. As an omega, she will be assured safety, guarded by security and isolated on 2 decks, protecting her from any feral alphas.
However, she quickly remembers her seasickness once the voyage is underway and she flees to vomit off one of the upper decks. There a lone alpha, unable to sleep, is out running on the deck in the moonlight when he sees her. Aware of her extreme sickness, he jumps into an uber alpha protective role carrying her to the on board infirmary and staying by her side when he returns her to her room.
Although he had been reluctant to obtain passage on this crew, his life pack partner, an Olympic medalist, pushed him, knowing their relationship could be and should be expanded to center their pack around an omega. Having scent matched immediately with this omega, he and his partner seek to woo her to create a shared pack.
What could go wrong on a vessel with omega cargo, most of whom are approaching heat, when competing alphas and a few betas roam the various spaces? If conditions were not tempered enough, the unrequited love, her brother’s best friend, decides to board the cruise initially to retrieve her and take her home.
A rival sort of tension ensues which is resolved only when the pack assembles as each one pledges a…
I’m loving this series…told from all POV. It’s just mostly light and loving. Just the right amount of mm to spice it up.

Great summer reading from the Omegaverse in this cruise-themed romance.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
I loved a previous series, The Carlson Brothers, by Sarah Blue and decided to sign up as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) reader for her newest book, High Seas Heat. I read the first book in the interconnected, standalone series, Mile High Heat, and wasn't left with overwhelmingly exciting feelings about my choice to ARC read this one. Boy, was I wrong, and I'm so glad I was. I really enjoyed this one, which earned it 4 stars from me, and I'm looking forward to more in the series going forward.
We're introduced to our Omega FMC, Claire, and join her as she tries to find her pack on the Heat Haven cruise. Wanting a pack life but knowing that her brother's best friend and one of our 3 MMCs, Elliott, doesn't seem to return her feelings, she sets off on a 3-month cruise to find Alphas to meet her needs and complete the vision she has for her future. Almost immediately she meets Alpha Forrest, and his partner and Beta, Wells - our other 2 MMCs. She clicks with both Forrest and Wells instantly but still longs for Elliott, until he too turns up on the cruise to take her home, but confesses his feelings for her too. The story is centered around whether or not Claire can have her cake and eat it too on the high seas, with two Alphas and a Beta for her pack.
As with her other books, Sarah Blue delivers consistently good writing and an easy-to-read storyline. While I was unconvinced about the Omegaverse before this book, I definitely found the characters in this one,…
What to Expect
• 🔗 Omegaverse
• 🔥 MMFM
• 🚢 Cruise setting
• 🫶 Nurturing alpha energy
The pacing felt off for me, and no matter how much I tried to settle into the story, it never fully clicked. It wasn’t bad. I did finish it. But I wasn’t as invested as I usually am with her books.
I *loved* the idea of a dating cruise in an omegaverse. It’s such a unique setup and had so much potential to be really fun. But it kind of fell flat for me. We didn’t get to experience much of the cruise itself, especially since Claire finds her match so quickly, and I think that’s part of why the story didn’t hit as hard as I wanted it to.
I liked the characters well enough. Wells (the beta) definitely carried a lot of the humor and gave the story some much-needed light moments. But for once, he wasn’t my favorite. That title goes to Forrest. His reluctant-to-be-on-the-cruise alpha energy shifting into full-on nurturing mode? Adorable. No notes.
Elliot, though, that’s where the book lost me a bit. He didn’t make a great first impression, and I just don’t think he groveled nearly enough to make up for it. His reintroduction felt forced, and because of that, a lot of his interactions didn’t land the way they should have. I did warm up to him by the end, but it was definitely more of a lukewarm like than anything else.
As always, the spice is solid, well-placed, and definitely hot, but it wasn’t quite enough to make up for the pacing issues for me.
Overall, I enjoyed it enough to…
