⭐️ 5/5 ⭐️ A Cute Rom-Com That Will Leave You Smiling
Spoilers & Thoughts Below!!!
•A cute rom-com story that had me smiling from start to finish.
•Brendon, who is a complete romantic sets out to prove to Annie, who has sworn off relationships that romance isn’t dead and happily forevers do exist.
•I absolutely loved this book so much, it had so many amazing tropes including childhood crush, friends to lovers, the one bed, and cheesy romantic moments.
•Dual POVs of Annie and Brendon.
•Enjoyed all the 90s romance movie references, especially When Harry Met Sally.
•Liked how we got more of Darcy and Elle’s story, which if you haven’t read their book I also highly recommend!
•The pacing in the beginning of the book was somewhat slow but definitely moved along towards the middle.
•I feel like this book was also just a love letter to Seattle and as the reader I loved getting to explore and fall in love with the city like Annie did.
•Annie and Brendon’s chemistry was incredible, their banter was hilarious and they were so adorable. Just absolutely loved their development.
•There is some spice, wasn’t a lot but it still was really good and Brendon was just a consent king!
•Honestly, Brendon’s character is the reason why I fell in love with this book so much. He was adorable, funny, believes in love, watches romance movies, loves Disneyland and even has an UP tattoo. He even gave Annie the space and the time she needed to sort out her feelings and choices. Like where can I find a guy like him!
•Annie was also such a…
Okay I just have to say a spoiler related thing here so fair warning. The whole book sets up this crises wher OTP is trying to reach out to more potential users and Brendon decides to focus on "love languages", and then Annie, who hates her job but loves translating has this hurdle about not having a job if she moved to Seattle... I kept waiting for somebody, ANYBODY, to suggest "why don't we offer OTP in VARIOUS LANGUAGES to widen the dating pool to non English speakers and hire Annie to do the translating?" and then that just never came up.
It's a cute story though how involved Brendon and Darcy are with each other's love/sex lives is a little weird in my opinion. I hate meddlers in such intimate relationships, and feel like Darcy of all people should be more sensitive to that after what happened to her friend circle after the Natasha thing. Add on that theyre siblings and it just really annoyed me.
The formulaic "won't they" moment in this one felt especially contrived. You know there's always going to be one but I had hoped for something with a bit more depth and nuance since it had seemed sort of self aware in the first half with all the rom com and Jane Austen references. And shouldn't Annie know who Jenna (girl in photo with Brendon on facebook) was since she went to the wedding with all of the employees of OTP??
Not a bad book and looking forward to Margot's story, but I had just hoped for something a little better.
What I liked: Brendan really added color to parts of the story in the first book so we got to know his character as a somewhat goofy romantic and love peddler/meddler. We didn't get much of Annie in the first book but I really liked her character. She comes across as a lighthearted, easy spirit with no filter and a wicked (and often raunchy) sense of humor and ok honestly I was crushing hard on her even before it was revealed she's bi, lol. The authors writing style is one of my favorites: Funny, witty, snarky as well as heartfelt, romantic and steamy.
This book is going to appeal to many people because Brendan and Annie are almost the stereotypical romcom couple but their backstories, the wonderful, jaded, flawed but hilarious cast of characters around them and in particular what Brendan does for a living with the out of the ordinary dating app really add color to this book.
What was not for me: I liked the Brendan character in the first book. He was important opening to Elle and Darcy's story.
He/his role was endearing in small doses in the first book but the farther I got into this one he just got annoying to me. For sure Brendan is meant to be sappy but for me it was so sappy and unrealistic at times I couldn't enjoy it. If that's your jam you'll love this book.
Also from the perspective of a person with debilitating anxiety at times I didn't enjoy reading the constant pressure being put on Annie by Darcy and Brendan to suddenly throw her life into upheaval and make…
Read Hang The Moon immediately!
Granted this book has only been out for about 3 weeks now but I have to ask how is it possible that there are less than 100 reviews. This book is amazing!
Written in the Stars was one of my favorite books I've read this year, and I was so excited for the follow up before I even finished it. This book did not disappoint, I absolutely love this book. I wasn't sure if I was going to love Annie just based on the few interactions with Darcy in the first book, but she is actually quite delightful. I knew I would love Brendon, he is so sweet and kind. This book is full of so many troupes I adore. Only one bed ✔, childhood friend's (kind of) to lovers ✔, I love it when the hero is absolutely gone for the heroine, and I love a sugary sweet hero. I'm not always a fan of siblings best friend, but I adored this one. I love the fact that Brendon has been holding onto a crush for Annie for all of these years. We get to see a bit of Darcy, Elle and Margot which was nice as I adore them. The story pulled me in and kept my attention. I adored Brendon and Annie's dates, their playful banter. They had so much tension and attraction. It was very sexy, but also so sweet. As far as chemistry, steam and banter it was through the roof. From the fist kiss to, the steamy times and the grand gesture I was swooning. One of the things I love most about this book is that it was pretty low angst, there was not a huge breakup, their conflict was not a huge misunderstanding, or non communication it was…
It is a second book in ”Written in the stars series” and that was the reason I read it. I really liked the first book and hoped some of the Darcy and Elle’s story will be in here too. I wasn’t mistaken. I found this book entertaining and funny. Although I usually prefer sapphic romance books I liked how this book made me laugh. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series - Margot story.
