Description

Devon has lived his entire life under the heavy weight of an impossible lesson: love is a transaction, and his worth is defined only by his utility to others. He wears his detachment like armor, convinced he is broken beyond repair. So, when Christian—a thrill-seeking adrenaline junkie craving a distraction—enters his orbit, Devon views their collision as inevitable wreckage. He is certain that if he ever truly lets someone in, the result will only be mutual destruction. Christian knows the sting of being left behind. With his old life centered around the roar of motorcycle engines and a brotherhood that has moved on without him, he is grappling with a profound sense of isolation. When Devon, a ghost from his past, reappears, Christian approaches with caution. He tells himself it’s just a temporary fix to numb the loneliness, knowing full well that trusting Devon once cost him dearly. Yet, as the layers of Devon’s icy exterior begin to peel away, Christian realizes the history they share is far more complex than simple heartbreak. In this final installment of the State of Us series, two men must navigate a high-stakes second chance, peeling back the masks they’ve built to face the possibility of a future neither dared to imagine.

Conclusion to Christian & Dev’s story

I didn’t know it was possible to be have my heart be so happy and sad at the same time!!!! I loved Christian’s and Dev’s conclusion! That part made my heart very happy! The sadness comes from this being the end of the series. These characters and this world will never be forgotten by me!! I loved them all so much and am sad that this was the last book. Bree did an amazing job with those epilogues though!!

A beautiful and poignant love story!

I don't know how to express how much I enjoyed reading this book, other than saying I loved it! Christian and Devon are broken men, they've both made bad decisions that hurt those closest to them, but this story doesn't just focus on those bad moments. This story beautifully showcases how you can re-build after everything crumbles apart, how you are more than just your bad decisions, and how you can choose to have a different story then the one you started with... I think Bree did a really beautiful job of showcasing that and doing it in such a beautiful and realistic way. I didn't think I would enjoy Devon and Christian as a couple simply because they had a lot of tension and anger between them. As I kept reading though I began to understand that there was so much more to their connection than anger and hurt. Once I was able to see them stop fighting each other is when I became fully invested in their story, and when I started to understand their characters better. I loved all of the side characters so much, they added so much depth to the story as well as providing so much diverse and (at times) humorous dialogue which I really enjoyed reading. I'll be honest, I'm not super familiar with the books in this series that came before this one. This book was my first dive into this world and even though its the end of the series, I really enjoyed reading it even without reading the previous books! I do have to say that after reading this book I am VERY curious about the other…

A Good End to a Good Set of Stories

It’s tough to end a multi-book romance series without burning out the reader, but Bree does it successfully. Following multiple couples over the course of the series was smart so you never got bored once the “enemies to lovers” tension ended. All too often it ends 15-25% of the way in and then the rest of the book is just literary porn.
