Description

A year after the wreckage of a long-term relationship, gaming streamer Kai Reid is still haunted by his past. Even a scorching one-night stand with NVA volleyball star Atticus Mills didn't provide the escape he hoped for. For Atticus, the city’s favorite playboy, that night was far more than a casual encounter, but he’s spent the last six months resigned to the friend zone. When a sudden housing crisis forces Kai to crash at Atticus’s place right before the season kicks off, the delicate balance of their friendship begins to fracture. Living in close quarters with an adorable, chaotic kitten as their unofficial roommate, the two find their professional masks slipping. As the tension mounts, the pressure of public perception threatens to trap Atticus in his reputation, while Kai’s persistent ex-boyfriend keeps pulling him toward a history he desperately needs to leave behind. Double Hit is a slow-burn journey through heartbreak, healing, and the messy reality of moving on. Can Atticus prove he’s ready for more than a fling, and can Kai finally stop looking back to see the future standing right in front of him? With a mischievous kitten leading the way, they might just find their path to a new beginning.

5\5 read

WHAT A BOOK! first and foremost, i just have to say how represented i felt as a bisexual reading this book. it is so often that bi characters are often over sexualized or misunderstood, played off as unicorns or just there for a good time but this story really touches on how bisexuals are real people who can be adventurous, sexual people who also love hard. just because people like myself and the main character Atticus like both men and women doesn’t mean we love any less, if anything this book shows how we love whole heartedly, to the point of near obsession. I loved Atticus, my best friend pointing out that he is just me as a boy, same character, different font. In truth, his character touches on so many of the insecurities I felt when i fell for my husband, who is quiet, shy, and has a very difficult time articulating his emotions, similar to the main character Kai in the book. ( i cried so many times reading this story even though it is a very happy loving book because i saw so much of my own love story and trials in it ) Katie, the author, truly has a talent on capturing love, loss of love and growth as a person and as a pair on the page. Cute and emotional

I was going to take this book slow, but once I started reading Kai and Attie's story, I couldn't stop. I'm also mildly in love with all the side characters (except Theo and Nicholas), and definitely would love to see more of all of them. But back to the men, Kai came with a lot of emotional hangups, but Atticus was there the whole time giving him a safe space to just be, even when it kind of hurt Atticus. But it does force Kai to grow and face his hang ups (with a little help from everyone along the way). It's just all around a sweet story with all kinds of healing.

Angsty

I enjoyed this angsty romance between a streaming gamer and a hot professional volleyball player. Relationships are hard and it is rewarding to see that they are worth it in the end.

Internally screaming in the best way!!

Omg where do I even start, this book was fantastic! This is a MM friends to lovers, volleyball player / gamer romance! The writing flows so well, it's very easy to read and it has amazing side characters (who I'm hoping we get books about 👀). Katie so realistically describes the post breakup feelings and the effects it has on not only yourself, but the friendships you develop. The development of Kai and Atticus' relationship was beautiful to read, this will definitely tug on your heart strings. For this being Katie's first published book it far exceeded any expectations I had! Thanks for the ARC Katie it was beautiful, one of my top reads of the year!
