Description

The high-stakes world of the underground law firm takes a volatile turn in Deviant, the gripping second installment of Cora Rose and Lark Taylor’s dark and seductive series. After the explosive events of the debut, the tension within the organization has reached a breaking point, forcing those bound by its shadows to confront the cost of their loyalties. At the heart of the chaos is a complex, shifting landscape where power and desire are inextricably linked. As new allegiances are tested and old boundaries shatter, the protagonists find themselves walking a razor-thin line between professional duty and personal obsession. The narrative dives deeper into the fluidity of identity and attraction, challenging the characters to embrace their most unconventional impulses in a world that demands absolute conformity. Expect more of the intense emotional stakes and steamy, high-octane chemistry that defined the series opener. This is a story of resistance, self-discovery, and the dangerous allure of breaking the rules. As secrets begin to unravel, our leads must decide if they are willing to burn down the very foundation they’ve built to gain their freedom—or if their deviance is the only thing keeping them whole.

Golden Retriever Kidnapper Meets Unhinged Black Cat

The Firm follows a group of brothers who were raised by a deeply abusive mob boss father. After his death, they inherited control of the family crime syndicate and now run it themselves, quietly using their power and resources to help people who need protection. This book gives us Ansel and Cade, and their dynamic is honestly one of my favorites. Ansel is an orphan hacker who gets forced into a situation way over his head. He is tasked with kidnapping someone, something completely out of character for him. He still sees himself as a good person, which makes the whole situation feel even more chaotic and slightly unhinged from the start. And then there is Cade. Except Ansel does not realize who he actually kidnapped. Cade is part of The Firm, and instead of escaping… he decides to stay. He leans all the way into the situation, flirting, teasing, and basically turning the entire kidnapping into his own personal game. Watching Cade give kidnapping advice while tied up and fully enjoying himself was hilarious. Meanwhile Ansel is spiraling, trying to figure out how everything got so out of control. Their dynamic is pure chaos in the best way. You get golden retriever energy from Ansel mixed with Cade’s slightly unhinged black cat energy, and it just works so well. Underneath the humor, there is also a really sweet relationship developing. Cade sees something in Ansel immediately and wants to protect him, while Ansel is just trying to survive the situation without losing…

Kidnapping meets romance

This was completely unhinged. I loved Covenant so I had high expectations for book 2 and it lived up to them! Cade and Ansel had me laughing from how ridiculous they both were when dealing with their “kidnapping”. We meet Ansel on the hunt for ‘Brad’ in a local bar because he needs to kidnap him as a way to pay off a debt and get a crime syndicate off his back. He meets Cade (only he doesn’t know he’s Cade) - because Cade gives a fake name of ‘Brad’. Ansel attempts to kidnap “Brad” - poorly, mind you - with Cade helping him along because Cade is instantly smitten with Ansel and wants to see where this is going. Cade wears Ansel down and eventually they hookup. Only during their tryst, it becomes very clear that Ansel is real danger and Cade and The Firm are the only ones who can potentially protect him. These two were an interesting pairing. I really enjoyed the back and forth between these two - how Ansel never stood down to Cade and how Cade caved to Ansel’s every request, when you’d expect the opposite. These boys fell fast and it was extremely evident in how hard they fought to protect each other from danger. I love the dynamics between the brothers and I find some of my favorite moments with these books are the family interactions. This book sets up nicely for book 3 and I can’t wait to see more of the Buckinghams! What you’re getting: Kidnapping gone wrong Forced proximity One bed Touch him and die Secret society Found family HEA Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

These series is starting to become one of my favorites

These series is starting to become one of my favorites. Second book in the series and I'm already so excited for the next one! Cade - Morally gray MMC or should we say morally black with golden heart ❤️ Ansel - pure golden retriever energy with a hint of darkness in it These two were soulmates from the first sight (especially if you ask Cade, Ansel may give you slightly different answer) Little "holiday" in the cottage and you have yourself a start of a great love story with little bit violence ❤️ what more can we dark romance girlies ask for

love it

The book had a good amount of plot, spices, humor, and all the characters shone in their own unique way. I thoroughly enjoyed all the dialogues in this book; they had me chuckling out loud several times.

Classic Cora Rose "Over the Topness"

Not as good as the first one. Deviant basically starts off with classic Cora Rose "over the topness." If you've read Cora Rose's books, then you know what I mean - it's that "I'd do anything, give anything, even watch through their windows, collect their dirty underwear, and totally take over their life" kind of vibe. The thing is, that OTTness continued to page 125 (40%) of the book, which is where I gave up. Now, this is me admitting that I didn't finish the book, but I feel pretty confident saying that the vibe continued throughout the rest of Cade's story. Book 1 had a touch of that, sure, but it felt a lot more balanced. I feel like Ansel and Cade just haven't offered much. Where I left off, I still had no real idea how Ansel had gotten into this mess, and the characters just weren't developed enough to my tastes for being almost half done with the book. If you like... - More than a touch of crazy - He falls [obsesses] first - I would un-alive someone for you - Touch him & d1e - Kidnapper X kidnappee then this book is for you. Normally, I can also dig those things, but it was just too much of all that and not enough of anything else.
