Description

Alexandra Vance is a high-stakes professional who prides herself on absolute control, but her carefully constructed world begins to fracture the moment she meets Jo. As colleagues locked in a dance of ambition and sharp-witted banter, the tension between them is electric, fueled by a shared competence that borders on an obsession. What starts as a strictly professional rivalry quickly bleeds into something far more dangerous, leaving them both breathless and desperate for a surrender that neither is willing to offer. Their chemistry is undeniable, escalating from lingering glances in the office to a transformative, unforgettable night at a Halloween party that changes everything. Beneath the polished exterior of their corporate lives lies a complex, searing attraction that refuses to be ignored. This is a story of character-driven desire, where the lines between mentor and muse blur, and the pursuit of power is secondary to the pursuit of each other. With its blend of biting humor, authentic emotional stakes, and a slow-burn intensity that ignites into something truly visceral, this is a romance that lingers in the mind long after the final page. Prepare to be captivated by a connection that is as intellectually stimulating as it is undeniably carnal.

Is it hot in here??

This is a VERY steamy well-written debut romance. What prevented me from giving it five stars instead of four was due to skirting the line of consent. While corporate VP Alex certainly came away with some feelings after her initial “anonymous” encounter with Jo and was trying to keep things professional, Jo came on pretty strong and didn’t always back off when asked. Whether or not she really wanted Jo to back off was neither here nor there. Her boundaries should have been respected. That said - the chemistry was sizzling and their encounters white-hot. I enjoyed it and look forward to another read by this author!

great read

Yes, a very good read, very good character development, I don’t know whether I like Alex or Jo more. I fit Jo the best with an Alex leading me on.

Wit and spice that stays with you

I go through a lot of content in this niche, a lot is enjoyable but soon forgotten. This one I still think about often. The humor, the competence kink, power imbalance role reversal, emotionally healthy problem solving without losing all the hot tension. Kept me invested to the very last page, and apparently even after that.
