Description

For Kestrel, life has always been defined by the scars left behind by a past she can’t outrun. Survival is a lonely, brutal game of endurance, and she’s played it long enough to know that nobody is coming to save her. But everything changes when she finds herself tangled in the dangerous, magnetic orbit of the Rogue Riders. These are not the men she was warned about; they are architects of chaos, each one harboring their own jagged edges and unspoken ghosts. As she is pulled into their volatile world, the lines between fear and desire begin to blur. For the first time, Kestrel is forced to confront the wreckage of her soul, realizing that her trauma doesn’t have to be a cage. Broken Breath is a raw, unflinching exploration of healing through the fire of unexpected connections. It is a story about finding fragments of yourself in the people you least expect, and the courage it takes to breathe after you’ve been suffocated by your own history. With high-stakes tension and emotional depth, this is a hauntingly beautiful journey where the ones who are most shattered are often the only ones capable of putting each other back together.

A comeback story that isn't quite as pictured.

Ahhhhhhhhh that cliffhanger is maddening. I absolutely can not wait to see what happens next. Alaina is so strong. She came back from a near death accident with a grudge to settle. Except now she is back and racing against the men like her life depends on it. She is living only for this one season, this one moment, this one chance. Except they are here slipping into the cracks and taking root. Finn number 14 and her brothers best friend whom she has wanted for as long as she can remember. Luc number 69 who has disarmed her with every breath. Mason number 21, the man no one gives a second glance at because one person made an allegation and now he's paying for it. I absolutely love these men. They are all falling for her or rather him because only Finn knows who she really is. Luc isn't afraid to be seen or offer support. He is loud and happy. He goes out of his way to help with things she doesn't even know she needs. Mason is this calm that is unexpected. He sees what she doesn't share and she actually sees him and gives him the benefit of the doubt. Finn is the one who knew her then and is learning who she is now. He doesn't think he can do anything because of who she is and what he thinks of himself. The healing already happening is amazing and I can't wait to see what more there is to learn. Blake Black write amazing contemporary duets with so much heart and healing.

Loved it!

This book had me hooked from the start! I just couldn’t put it down and finished it within a day. It was such a refreshing storyline that just captivated me. The guys and how unique they all were and their connection to Alaina/Allen. The tension and build up was just perfect. And you add in the great supporting characters of Piper and Dane and even Otis. I loved it. But to leave us on a cliffhanger for a month?! Criminal.

The way I was invested in this story...

I have to say I am loving every Blake Black book I can get my hands on and this one was no exception. The author has the magic touch on investing you in the characters and weaving a story that doesn't let you go. She handles pain and brokenness beautifully and as the reader I almost seem to feel it on a visceral level. To say that my heart breaks for Alaina and her brother would be an understatement. To know what really happened and live in pain like that - I honestly can't fault her ultimate plan. But the way I wish and hope that the 3 men in her life give her a reason to go on is desperate. Poor Finn - he has foot in mouth syndrome badly. Let's hope he can fix that. Luc brings her the sunshine she needs. And Payne - he's her kindred spirit. I really hope they can get it together after that cliffhanger, because of course I know have to live counting down the days, hours, minutes till book 2!

Amazing duet!

SO good!! I loved this duet. It's so well-written and set in the unique world of downhill MTB. The characters are so fun but there's a lot of depth there as well. One of my favorite aspects was how well developed and distinct each of the MMCs are in this book. Definitely recommend!!

An Absolute Adventure!

This book was a thrilling tale of trauma, suspense, and absolute giggle worthy drama! I loved every second and dreaded finishing this book. Mostly because I had to wait for the second one to be released as I didn’t realize I’d be sucked in so deeply I would reed through it in two days! Following Alaina’s journey with hiding her identity, the suspense of her being discovered, and the heart touching moments with her finding new connections to fight for, was , “chefs kiss”! (I would have loved to say French Kiss but Luc might have taken offense.🤣) There wasn’t very much spice in this first book, which I greatly appreciated. I love when an author takes the time to create and build an emotional relationship between the characters before having them jump into bed and Blake Black did that, making this an all time favorite. Finding a Reverse Harem story where the FMC disguises herself as a guy and the story evolves around the more emotional aspects of the character is so hard to find, but it was done and now I can’t get enough. The cliffhanger was brutal in the sense that I couldn’t start the second book fast enough. Alaina reliving her nightmare, secrets going to be revealed, a perfect ending and cliff hanger for book one. I cannot emphasize enough with how in awe I am of this authors story. It is a must read, making you have all the feelings from heartbreak to exasperation at some of the characters (I’m looking at Luc.) The fives stars is well deserved and I’m desperate to…
