Between the Pipes: Offsides, Book 3

This is one of the best opposites attract, grumpy/sunshine books I have ever read. Especially in the sports romance category. Nico & Anthony look and act like two people who shouldn't even be friends let alone together and it makes it that much more satisfying when they get together. This is the third book in the Offsides series. While you don't technically have to read all of the books or in order to understand it, I would highly recommend doing so. It will give you a better background of side characters and pervious events to make the story better. I would also highly recommend reading this book before starting the authors other series set at the college Nico works for. Thrown together for a summer of coaching college hockey at South Carolina University, Anthony makes every effort to be friendly; Nico, on the other hand, seems intent on being infuriating and keeping the other man at arm's length. When a causal relationship forms between the pair, they form an unsteady truce. Nico. That man is infuriating while also making me want to hug him and never let go. He doesn’t want anyone to know about his injury and how it affects his eyesight. Because of that, it makes him push people away and not let anyone get close. When he realizes Anthony wants to try to make something work between them, he makes so many rules that make it impossible for them to get as close as they may want. Anthony is the most understanding person on the planet. He sees through Nico’s rough and tough exterior, and just inches his way inside- as much as the man will let him. All those darn rules, though!! Nico and Anthony are great together, you can just feel how comfortable they are with each other’s presence. I was rooting for them the whole book- well I was actually yelling at Nico to get out of his damn head and let Anthony in- but still rooting for them to make something special. As time went on, learning more details about Nico’s injury, dealing with outside influences during their summer practices with the SCU team, as well as just their lives in general, I found I could not put this book down. Great book from a great series from this writer. Characters you can relate to that feel like real people you might know. Fast read. Liked all the titles from this series.

This was easily my favorite book of the series. The story flowed much better than the previous two did and there was actually some drama to the plot. I enjoyed seeing Anthony get his happy ending and Nico was a fun grump to be his partner.

If you want a low-angst, fluffy book with a queer awakening - this is the book for you. I didn't know it was possible to love characters in this series more than the first two books, but then Nico and Lawson happened. Lawson is pure golden retriever, and watching him crack through Nico's walls was absolute gold.
