Description

Clint has spent his entire adulthood defining himself as a father, living cautiously to provide for his son, Joey. When he sends Joey off to basic training, the young man makes a single, life-altering request: that his father finally do something selfish. To ensure Clint follows through, Joey enlists his best friend, Raven, to act as the architect of Clint’s summer transformation. Raven, who has always looked at Clint with a mixture of reverence and longing, accepts the charge with dangerous enthusiasm. He intends to push Clint toward his own desires, but he never expects to find those desires reflected back in the older man’s gaze. What begins as a mission of self-discovery quickly spirals into an all-consuming, high-stakes obsession. As they shed the boundaries of their past lives, the two men surrender to an electric, unapologetic need that leaves no room for anything—or anyone—else. But summers don't last forever, and the shadow of Joey’s return threatens the fragile reality they have built in seclusion. Forced to confront the potential destruction of their closest ties, Clint and Raven must decide how much they are willing to lose for a love that others might call wrong.

Clutch your pearls and hold on tight...

What a tough story in the best way possible. Be ready, be aware, this story is the darkest of romances. It is every single thing I love and then some, but it is absolutely not for the faint of heart. If you like your romance to exist in the sunshine, look the other way because this one grows horns in the shadows. This story is the best kind of brutal. I cried real, hurty tears more than once because every decision feels impossible and there really is no painless path forward for anyone involved. The emotional fallout hits hard every single time and the turbulent waters these two navigate to reach one another are as dangerous as they are painful. It makes the HEA feel earned in a way that lighter romances sometimes just cannot reach. The character growth happens mostly off page, but honestly, I appreciated that. The kind of healing and soul-searching these characters needed was never going to happen overnight, and the story understands that. Nothing about this journey feels easy, rushed, or magically fixed. Maybe most importantly, there is true artistry in the way C.P. Harris spins words. The imagery and descriptive metaphors are absolutely captivating. I cannot tell you how many times I used the skip back feature just to replay certain lines because they hit that hard. And yes, I’m rereading this title via audiobook if that was not already obvious, and the narrators did a phenomenal job. I personally recommend physically reading this on the first go around but if you're…

The steam isn’t for the weak but so worth the wait!

Beautifully broken people! Great layering and building of these characters. I laughed real tears and had full belly laughs with these characters. I am now needing Link to have a book?!??! Yes even the side characters make you want to know more! Very good writing!

Couple is Dad and adopted Son

Don’t be fooled by the misleading description. Know what you’re getting into. The one MMC was essentially adopted at 10 years old and goes on to fall in love with his Dad! And he also sleeps with his adopted brother. Yet he’s painted as the villain, a seductive siren. What!? Why!? Why!? Why couldn’t it just be his best friend’s Dad. And they have the most toxic, violent sex. This is not love, it’s sick obsession. I was rooting for these characters to break up! I need to palette cleanse with Kiss the Villain. Giving 2 stars because I did not DNF though there was a lot of skimming.
