Description

Bobby Mason has always chafed against his status as the spare. While his peers coast on inherited wealth and title, he is desperate to prove his worth and make a tangible impact on a world that refuses to take him seriously. His primary target for frustration? The newly minted Viscount Demeroven—a man Bobby finds insufferably pompous, fragile, and entirely too easy to provoke. For James Demeroven, life has been a silent exercise in keeping his head down. Having survived a stifling upbringing, he views his new role as a burden rather than a privilege. To James, the audacious and reckless Bobby is a dangerous disruption; he is all the things James wishes he could be, yet remains a constant reminder of everything James isn’t. Their shared history, rooted in a faint but lingering college longing, only makes the current friction between them more combustible. Trapped in a cycle of heated arguments and undeniable resentment, the two men want nothing more than to stay as far apart as possible. Unfortunately, their fiercely meddling and well-meaning cousins are determined to play matchmaker. As they are repeatedly thrust into each other's orbit, Bobby and James must decide if their mutual animosity is a shield—or the very thing bringing them together.

So sweet, full of love and hope!

What a fantastic follow up to the first book! I really love that the author uses both protagonists POV throughout the book, they switch each chapter. I think it helps cement yourself into both our main leads thoughts and feelings. I loved what a big softie Bobby ends up being, it was adorable. And James, he was so difficult in the beginning of the book! But the author does a fantastic job of showing you his background, his fears, and his mental state that really let you understand why he is being the way he is. I was rooting for James to finally see what a supportive and loving partner Bobby would be and the whole Havenfort/Mason clan supporting their love. And when he finally does, I melted! This book is realistic for queer romance at the time but the author writes the supporting characters and families with so much hope, love, and respect for our queer leads that it is just perfect. "It's the world that's wrong, not us". Better together!! You gotta pick up this book and the first one too if you haven't read it yet. They are fantastic and I hope the author continues writing books like these, I will be scooping them up, that's for sure!

Pretty enjoyable

I really enjoyed the writing style and the premise was interesting but the beginning was so slow. It didn't pick up for me until around 30-35%. It was not grabbing my attention whatsoever up until that point. ended up having to pick up the audiobook on release day and tandem read them to keep my focus (although it did help that the story picked up). did like the solution they came up with in the end to be able to live their lives happily during the time period they're in. I would definitely pick up something from this author in the future because did enjoy the writing If you are a fan of historicals you would probably enjoy this.

Not as much ...

After loving the 1st book in this series (Don't Want You Like a Best Friend), I got this book. It was fun catching up on the lives of the supporting characters, but I didn't like this book as much, perhaps due to angst overload on the part of the two male MCs.

Good book!

Love the novel itself. Super fun and steamy. However, I got a misprinted book and after a scuffle with Amazon’s support, I had to ultimately buy a new book without reimbursement for the first one :/
