So here we are. I came back to book three after being critical of the first two books in this series and honestly with no certainty that I would return for this third installment. Yet, I am glad I did. One word comes to mind, resplendent. First, I read a good deal of series and I find that the third book is always the most difficult for the author. Things occur in the reverse here and I wonder if perhaps it’s the way that the author Ms. Lyons always intended. I am able to see the full arc of the characters that was missing from books one and two and that may be in part due to my lack of vision admittedly. I am here in this review to give credit where credit is due. This book, this tome; has earned a five star review for being transcendent in the genre. It is what I saw gleaming underneath in the first two books that is well above ground and shining in this piece. The author first solidifies the romance and that was key to me, I am here to root for the main characters you introduced me to, I want them to win. What shouts in this installment though is the nuance, the absolute sensuality that Catherine and Alex display. Here they are rounded, they have come full circle and they fight for their love. I didn’t hold back on how I felt about the character of Alex; in book two especially. Here she loses none of her quiet vulnerability, however it is sharpened with her finding her footing, taking up space, and having agency. I was scared with that hotel scene with the ex who shall…
A Riveting Conclusion to The Senator's Wife Series
Whistleblower, the third and final installment in Jen Lyon's The Senator's Wife series, continues the captivating age-gap romance between Catherine and Alex and masterfully ties up all the loose ends of the saga. As the conclusive event, Lyon does justice to the series, providing a believable and interesting resolution that will leave readers more than satisfied.
Warning: Possible spoilers.
One of the standout aspects of Whistleblower is Catherine and Alex’s increased time together, a welcome change that adds depth to their relationship. It was something I didn’t know how much I needed until gifted with it. Watching them grow and develop without the need for the secrecy that defined their earlier interactions was a joy, and Lyon skillfully navigates this progression without making it too rosy.
The author's decision to leave a few storylines in a state of discord is commendable. Despite the desire some readers might have for a redemption for Caleb and reunion between him and Alex as friends, Lyon realistically acknowledges the complexities and strains that have fractured what they once had. It's a testament to Lyon's storytelling prowess that she handles this broken relationship with nuance and authenticity.
The male characters in the series are not representatives of all men, but do portray the horrible behavior of a sad few, showcasing Lyon's commitment to realism. She delves into the darker aspects of human behavior, portraying some characters as dastardly and…

I absolutely LOVE this series!
While I couldn't wait for the final installment in the Senator's Wife trilogy, now that it's over I'm sad to say goodbye to two characters who really got under my skin - especially Catharine Cleveland. Brilliant, utterly capable and stunningly beautiful, she'd been under the thumb of men for most of her life. A cruel father and an arguably crueler husband, Catharine still managed to grow an incredibly successful shipping business, becoming one of the wealthiest and most well respected businesswomen in the world. Yet she could never be happy. She was biding her time in anticipation of the day when she might be able to enjoy an open, authentic life, but she'd have to crawl through hell to get there.
And then there's Alex Grey, an up-and-coming professional women's soccer player a decade-and-a-half her junior who rescued Catharine from a near-catastrophic boating accident - a fateful day that would alter the course of both of their lives forever. While Alex pursues her dream of making the United States Women's National Team, hers and Catherine's lives become intertwined in a way neither anticipated, and neither can deny.
It's hard to review a third book in a series, because there is always the possibility of folks not having read the first two. But when Jen Lyon burst into the sapphic fiction scene in early 2023 with The Senator's Wife, it was apparent she was incredibly talented. Then the second book in the series Caught Sleeping dropped mid-year and it was solidified - Lyon…
They finally got what they deserved!
Reading three fabulous books about the same cast of characters really gets the reader involved and invested in their journeys of trials, triumphs and happily ever afters.
Jen Lyon's writing is rich with exceptional prose, sensual descriptive passages and multi-layered, memorable characters that touch my emotions. I've always loved the character of Catharine and loathed her husband Carlton. What a despicable human being he is. The same might be said for her father. Catharine's choices may not have been what most readers wanted, yet, they were true to her inner compass and journey. I've had mixed feelings for Alex, especially in book two; however, in my opinion, she totally redeemed herself in this final book. The many types of friendships in this story were outstanding. They secondary characters were absolutely amazing!
Whistleblower is a very compelling and uplifting conclusion to The Senator's Wife series. Well done, Jen, I did not want it to end!

I didn't know if I would even like book 1 when I bought the series, but after getting through the 1st half of The Senator's Wife, I started to enjoy the storyline. I am from the Carolina low country below Charleston. The tenor and representation of a great many people in that area. Spent a few years around Sumter. The life and religiosity of the area are well represented here. Even spent a week or so around San Jose. Not enough to be conversant but just a tiny bit to enjoy.
The story seems to grab the politics that are now playing out in the USA, which describes the very unhealthy politics we are now experiencing. We may get lucky enough to get a good ending, but as in the series it is touch and go.
Thank you for the story, and you evidently have been paying attention!
