I loved this book. I think this short, sweet book is one of the first to touch me so deeply as Caleb discovers that there is someone who sees him, who enjoys spending time with him, and wants more. I found myself holding back tears as Bailey told him how he felt and Caleb tried to wrap his head around something he had yearned for but never expected to have. Bailey was the perfect person for Caleb, he was so patient. I could feel Caleb’s excitement as he shared with his sister, and I could hear and picture him clearly in my mind as he realized what this meant.
This book is beautiful, a perfect description of those first feelings of attraction then more, the doubt, fear, yet hope and anticipation —it was perfect! I will definitely watch for more from this author, the bar is set high, but I expect great things to come.
I received a copy of the book for free from the author and am so glad I did. It really moved me, and happy to share my voluntary review. I would give 10 stars if I could
"I've seen you in the window."
My latest read was Where the Light Falls, by Emory Hale, a prequel to The Bloomsbury Series. Let me just start by saying that I loved this book. It’s about Caleb Ward, an archivist at the Hartwell Library, who’s working towards his master’s in library science. Enter Bailey Keane, a barista from a coffee shop across the street from the library where Caleb works. Bailey is also working towards his master’s, in art history, and visits the library after weeks of Caleb watching him from the library window during his breaks, dreaming about the man he feels he can never have. Bailey is outgoing, confident, and comfortable in social settings, while Caleb feels he’s too shy, awkward, and strange for anyone like Bailey to find interesting. So when Bailey enters the library asking for help with research for his thesis, Caleb’s world shifts, in the best way possible.
I found this story so, so, so very sweet. It was romantic in such an adorable way, with each man noticing each other, paying attention to each other, and taking true interest in one another. Add to that the way Bailey helped Caleb realize that he isn’t invisible, that he is indeed so much more special than he realizes, and it becomes a romance most people only dream of. This story reinforces the power of being brave and taking chances, otherwise missing out on what can be a most special part of your life. And to my amazement, all this was done without any sex scenes, and it worked perfectly. This book didn’t need them. And…
This is a no-heat cozy mm bookish romance set in atmospheric London in the quaint Hartwell Library. Im not really a no-heat mm reader but this book made me feel so much that I barely noticed. The book is in Caleb's POV and it made my heart ache with the tenderness and quiet yearning he has for Bailey and Bailey being the patient, gentle sweetheart had me holding back tears by the end. Where the Light Falls a well crafted short read about being seen which is echoed in themes of the book which is part of Bailey's thesis in historical art: who decides whose story is told via canvas and color and those that are overlooked. Im so invested in these soft boys now as they are so vivid in my mind. I have already preordered the next book Where the Light Shines which is in Bailey's POV. I cant wait!!
