Book so sweet I had to see a dentist

I have been tearing through Haley Cass' oeuvre since I first discovered her works. She is a truly incredible writer, and she perfectly balances tension and comfort, angst and bliss. From Caroline's first (real) conversation with Hannah and Abbie, I knew this book was something special. It is warm and cozy, and it makes you believe in the goodness of love. Haley Cass does something very special in her books. A lot of the time, when I'm reading romance, I get anxiety because I know that I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. I can feel the big 3rd act break up coming, and it sets my nerves on fire in a bad way. But Haley Cass doesn't do that here. There is some drama, sure, every story needs some. But Cass writes in such a way that you trust her. By the time I hit page 300, I trust the author with my emotions, and I know that everything is going to be okay, and the characters will have their happily ever after. And that is sort of incredibly rare. Haley Cass is a rare writer. When You Least Expect it is an incredible book. The chemistry between Hannah and Caroline is absolutely fantastic, and I couldn't wait to see how their relationship progressed. The characters are so layered. And Abbie is all kinds of genuinely adorable. I loved this book so much. A 6-star if I could rare it so.

Feel the slow burn

A sleeper book - but definitely satisfies! Loved the imagery. I enjoy when books like this include children. It’s also nice to read about single parents with children. There’s some interesting plot twists, nice variety of characters, and definitely some fun spicy sections. Easy read. Delightful array of emotions: worry, anxiety, giddiness, and confusion. Lots of build up and anticipation! Recommend for sure! Very few grammatical issues. I recall seeing two (a word missing from a sentence, and two words reversed). Awesome!

Overall Decent

Quick read. Story is dragged out a bit for me but spice was good. Not too much spice, could have been a little more. Not much of a major conflict/plot. Decent, quick read.

Slow Burn

I love Haley Cass. Her books are distinct because they possess a unique flow that is characteristic of her writing. Caroline's character is on point with most divorce attorneys who handle people of stature or fame. I was so worried about her interaction with the NFL player, and it proved true. The escalation of the meeting was just in the perfect spot in the story to help with Hannah and Caroline's relationship. Abbie is the most delightful little girl and the character that holds this story together. I love her. Her relationship with Caroline is so special and heartwarming. Another good story

Absolutely Wonderful!

I loved this book. The story of Caroline, Hannah and Abbie was extremely personal, heartbreaking and yet a heartwarming story for each of them. Caroline being a kick ass divorce attorney goes pro bono to represent Hannah who is trying to get a divorce from Michael, Caroline’s ex co-worker and arch enemy. They have a nine year old daughter and Caroline wants to do her best for both Hannah and Abbie. As proceedings goes on and Caroline and Hannah are with each other more and more, Caroline develops feelings for Hannah. When Hannah forces Caroline to drop alimony and other claims on Michaels hidden fortune because she wants to be independent from him, have full custody and make it on her own, Caroline admits she is gone over this women. Their is a love story that reaches to your heart. Those who have falling for a straight girl knows the pain it can cause. As the story unravels and after Caroline wins her case, she realizes how imbedded in Hannah and Abbie’s lives she has become. The self awareness of both of them realizing their feelings but slowly dealing with it was probably the most frustrating words ever written. The story brings everything full circle to a wonderful conclusion. However, this is definitely a story of two lovely people I would love to read more about. It could go far. The storytelling from Haley Cass is once again heartfelt.
