Description

Sienna Fisher is a free spirit whose life was forever altered the day a scathing critique from a high-profile art curator sent her packing from London. Years later, that curator, the coolly elegant and formidable Jasmine Gemayel, is now the CEO of a luxury New York empire. When a series of mishaps lands Sienna an internship under Jasmine’s iron-fisted command, she finds herself in a position she never anticipated: working for the very woman who once dismantled her confidence. The sting of the past remains, but so does an inexplicable pull. Jasmine—brilliant, icy, and seemingly untouchable—has no recollection of the girl whose dreams she once crushed. Intent on proving her worth through a high-stakes design competition, Sienna throws herself into the grueling corporate grind. But beneath the professional friction and blistering late-night critiques, something else begins to simmer. Every argument over aesthetics is charged with an undeniable, electric tension that defies logic. Jasmine is established, composed, and safely married—or so the office whispers suggest. As their worlds collide in a dance of ambition and hidden desires, Sienna must decide if chasing the woman who defined her past is worth the risk of fracturing her future. This is a story of second chances, long-overdue reconciliations, and the complex, messy realization that the best way to fly is to stop running from your history.

Even a Gilded Cage, Is still a Prison that Prevents Us From Flying

Three cheers to Lee Winter and narrator Chelsea Stephens! Lee, I love the entire full circle journey you share with us for MCs Sienna and Jasmine. The souls of each are like a chemical reaction in that each is a catalyst to each other. Jasmine ignites a chain reaction in Sienna that launches her into the world and 10 years later Sienna ignites a chain reaction in Jasmine that frees her from her Gilded Cage. Lee, what a wonder to behold, when we allow ourselves to fly!

Something About This One

I found myself really really liking this one, despite initial misgivings. Sienna is hope and vision, and she was the perfect counterpoint for where Jasmine is on her growth journey. What I liked the most was both MCs frankness and maturity.

Fate. She is powerful.

“She loves me. And I broke her heart.” (p.246) Fate. She is powerful. She comes from deep historical roots with points of view that range from philosophy (a diverse range of POVs), Psychology and Religion. Here, fate is frequently portrayed as an inescapable, cosmic force that binds Sienna and Jasmine. An inevitable rather than accidental “destined mates” scenario, believed by one, “she just goes with the flow. Wherever fate takes her,” (p.323) and discredited by the other. And yet free will insists on entering the room. Why? Because choices still happened. Some careful. Some reckless. Fate may have guided the path, but Sienna and eventually Jasmine took control. The turbulence mattered. The risk mattered. “Find Sienna. Be with her. Win at life again.” (p.263) And still, despite everything, the plane landed. Jasmine, was shaped early by trauma, a mother’s shame cutting deep as she punished her daughter for refusing the narrow role of a dutiful woman and never letting her forget the cost of that refusal. As a result, Jasmine believed she was lacking, selfish, too egotistical, abandoned heritage, family, and God. Nor would she ever find true happiness in the arms of a woman. Stripped of her creative & artistic soul. Once magnanimous, Jasmine went colorless. Alas, the tormented, detached, aloof CEO Ice Queen. Putting duty, image, and reputation first. Sad. Broken. Lost. Caged. Winter presents the struggle well, a trademark and also draws from other Ice Queen characteristics…

Phenomenal!!!

I wholeheartedly loved this book and look forward to listening to it when the audiobook comes out! The characters are well rounded, flawed, and delicious. The dialogue was incredible and the banter was spectacular. This was a hard book to put down and I didn’t want it to end.
