Description

1890, the American frontier. A punishing, expansive desert that offers no mercy—except to those who refuse to stay buried. Charlotte Grace Windsor has spent a lifetime being shaped into a fragile, obedient shadow under the thumb of cruel men. After finally breaking free from a life of starvation and systemic oppression, she finds herself at the end of her rope, ready to surrender to the unforgiving sands. That is until Sawyer Hayes, a woman as hardened and solitary as the landscape she traverses, pulls her back from the abyss. Sawyer has spent years compartmentalizing her past, convinced that her heart is nothing more than cold, dead ash. But as she guides Charlotte toward a life of autonomy and untamed freedom, she finds her own resolve flickering. Between these two women, a profound and dangerous connection begins to spark, defying the rigid expectations of the century. Their journey is a collision of survival and self-discovery, fueled by a chemistry that threatens to consume them both. But just as Charlotte learns that she is not just a victim, the past catches up, and Sawyer vanishes, leaving behind a silence more deafening than the desert winds. Now, Charlotte must decide if she can fan the embers of her own soul and reclaim the woman who ignited her fire.

This book shattered me 🖤

This book absolutely wrecked me in the best possible way. The writing was so vivid I genuinely felt trapped inside this story with these women. Every moment of pain, fear, love, and hope hit me so hard. I wasn’t just reading this book. I was feeling every second of it. Sawyer completely owned my heart. The way she loves is so intense, protective, and all-consuming once she lets Charlotte in. And Charlotte…she shattered me. Watching her survive everything she endures and still fight for herself destroyed me over and over again. This is not an easy read at all. The author does not hold back, and some parts genuinely hurt to read. They are supposed to hurt. The healing, resilience, and love that grows through all that pain made this story UNFORGETTABLE. One of my favorite reads this year if not EVER.

Great Debut!!

What a wonderful debut from L. Creeke! Beautiful characters, good plot and look into that time. A lot of loose ends to tie up. Can’t wait till the second comes out!

Great story telling. Hard to put down. Anxious for more.

Thoroughly enjoyed this unique, face-paced, 19th period Western. There are compelling, lovable yet damaged characters whose success you soon come to root for and villains whose just desserts you hope come quickly and painfully. There is a great potential for the story to continue and I hope it does.

wow

I love this book. It was really sad in the beginning of the abuse and well, but you know what it was bearable for me and I really really enjoyed the love story between these two beautiful women. The sex scenes were really spicy.
