Description

The path of true love is rarely easy, but for Clem and Wist, it is frequently haunted by the shadows of a traumatic past. Fresh off their latest supernatural ordeal, the pair is beckoned to a remote, opulent estate—the very site of Wist’s upbringing and the fortress of her cutthroat, power-hungry mage kin. While Wist possesses enough raw magical might to level the manor, her family weaponizes a different kind of cruelty: cold, calculated manipulation. Without magic of her own, Clem finds herself in the most dangerous position imaginable: the leverage point. To the treacherous mages, she is nothing more than a pawn designed to break Wist’s spirit, a fatal weakness meant to push the powerful sorceress toward an act of ruinous violence. As the bodies begin to drop, the stakes sharpen. Clem is haunted by the past, desperate to break the cruel mage-healer bonds that once cost her dearly. But before she can save the others, she must first survive the house that birthed their greatest enemy. Filled with atmospheric mystery and the enduring strength of a sapphic bond tested by fire, this installment proves that even in death-defying circumstances, the most dangerous weapon is the person you love most.

New Clem and Wist volume, same old awesomeness!

It was just yet another spamming email from Amazon, or so I thought. Looked at it anyhow, was a new Clem and Wist book, omg! Bought it immediately even though I have Kindle Unlimited. Didn't even read the summary first. Usually I read new books from Hiyodori immediately, but took me a couple days with this. Loved it as usual though. The main thing I want from a Clem and Wist book is to experience their relationship. At times I have wondered what it really is, esp based on the things that Clem says. Do they love each other or not? They never really say that to each other, but to me their love, affection, and loyalty to each other are the theme of each book. I love how they obviously need each, and that each is part of the other. To spin off the prequel title, no one else can heal each of them. To me, this book brings that front-and-center. Also, I liked that in this book Clem and Wist are working together and not at odds, unlike in the last book, Queen of the Void. I am glad this book returned to them being a team. As usual with a Clem and Wist book, adventures happen, both women suffer, and life gets even more complicated for them, with ominous portents for their future. Some things always get kicked down the road. This book has the usual heartache, heartbreak, and heartwarming arc. Just so love them both. This book is different from the previous three (or four if you count the prequel) in that it contains a murder mystery. We saw a bit of that in the previous books,…

Danver and Lear deserve their own spin-off

Hey, my favorite couple is back and better than ever. After the events of Clematis and the Queen of the Void, Clem and Wist return to Osmanthus to deal with some family drama. Set in the now-familiar Shien estate, we’re introduced to a new set of characters as well as some returning faces from No One Else Could Heal Her. Danver and Lear are my favorite new additions to the story, and I would absolutely read a standalone book about them and whatever the heck they have going on. They’re both such characters. As for the narrative itself, while I did see the twist coming from a mile away, Hiyodori’s execution of it was still satisfying to behold. Clem and Wist getting a second chance to re-establish their bond—properly, this time—was also a sweet touch.

Great series continues

Though this book went a little slower for me, it was still very enjoyable to revisit the unique relationship of Clem and Wist. This one had some twists and turns that were unexpected, and a good mystery. I love how their relationship still works even with the stress they experience in this book, and the ending is satisfying. Always looking forward to the next one.
