Description

He was meant to be the leverage, a pawn in a brutal game of mob retribution. He was supposed to be Declan, the brother who dared to cross the syndicate and pay the ultimate price. But as the shadows of the basement retreat, the man chained in the dark reveals a devastating truth: he is Dylan, the hidden, discarded twin who never asked to be part of the criminal underworld. The realization fractures everything. The predator who unleashed his darkest impulses on an innocent soul is now faced with a wreckage he created. Bound by guilt and a burgeoning, obsessive need to make amends, the mobster finds his cold heart struggling with a new, terrifying reality—the man he tortured is the only one who can save him. This is a high-stakes descent into a world of grit, consequence, and unlikely redemption. It’s a story where mistaken identity blurs the lines between captor and savior, challenging the idea that someone truly monstrous is beyond the reach of love. In the dark, quiet corners of a life defined by violence, two broken men must navigate a twisted path toward a devotion they never thought they deserved.

Mistaken Identity

Dylan comes to in a torture chamber meant for his twin Declan, mistaken for him but his torturer Dante has doubts. When he figures out he is Dylan, he becomes obsessed with claiming him after almost unaliving him. Dante is so remorseful, so enraptured, so trapped in his feelings for Dylan. And Dylan amazingly and confusedly returns the feelings with his lack-a-****-itis. It's a pickle that all their steam and desire can't solve because Dante is supposed to not let Dylan go but unalive him for knowing too much.

slow burn

I liked the progression of the story. It flowed very well. At times, some of the MC monologues were repetitive. Understandably so given the captor and captive context. I disagree with Dante quitting his job for Dylan. I feel like he could’ve had both, but it’s clear (well, in between the lines clear) Dante wants to explore himself. I disagree with the idea that Dylan “taught” Dante how to love. From when the mistaken identity was proven true, Dante showed how he could be gentle and caring. Dante always knew how to love. He just kept his walls up because of his job. Naturally. The foreshadowing towards Dylan confessing the seduction plan was subtle and realistic. I just don’t think the confession was needed. It didn’t add anything to the story in my opinion.

Better than I expected

I didn’t k ow what to expect…but it was so much better than I’d hoped. A little dark, a lot worth it. The HEA was so so good.

Good.

I liked this story but it definitely needs a bit of editing. It is quite repetitive at time and that annoyed me. The beginning was a bit hard to read but Dante redeems himself well.

good book

I’ll admit. It starts off a little slow but sticking with it was worth it. I loved Dante and Dylan’s story. It was good
