Thoroughly enjoyed this one! If the 1992 movie “The Bodyguard” and the book/movie “Red White and Royal Blue” had offspring - The Unlikely Spare would be their first born. The first three quarters of the story is a nice slow burn - romantic tension and political thriller wrapped into one. The last quarter was a page turner right to the end. I grew very fond of each main character and found the commentary on colonial imperialism and cultural reparations compelling. I’ll be keeping this one in myself so I can return to it again. Totally recommended!
Ok book..Yes it is a love story..ok

Flawless! And a real rollercoaster ride of emotions ,espionage and danger
Honestly ,I have read the other two novels in this series ,thinking each one was the best ,but this story has surpassed them all ……who would guess that adding the horrible history of British colonialism would actually enrich their story esp with Prince Nicholas’ passion to try and begin to rectify the cruelties of England’s past in an amazing way ! If only it could be that way in truth ! The two main characters were hilarious in their pas de deux of angry romance in spite of their totally opposing backgrounds. What an amazing ,thrilling and truly consuming story of real love !! Thank you ,and please keep writing !
An enjoyable, totally unrealistic storyline in the vein of Red, White and Royal Blue, which seems to be all the rage in MM romances these days. The characters were interesting and there was a suspenseful aspect to the plot that held the storyline together. I think this made the book have more depth than a flat out royal/commoner romance. This is the kind of romance that romance fans wish for in real life.

A laugh on Every Page for sure. There’s just no end to Nicholas’s jokes and wise cracks. He is extremely witty and so intelligent throughout the book. He tries desperately to let his real self out of a cage that British Royalty has forced him to stay in. He eventually throws caution to the wind as does Eoin. They both decide that in the long run, their love for each other rules. Calder is such a talented writer. Im always ready for more of her work.
