I am not one for straight contemporary romance, but this book had the perfect blend of high-stakes/life or death, plus complex, lovable characters, and a really fun setting that I thoroughly enjoyed. If you're a fan of this book or have read Beyond the Sea by Keira Andrews, I'd highly recommend it. They share similar overall plotlines: unlikely m/m pairing who get trapped/stranded and end up falling in love and having to sort that out once they're back home. Highly recommend both books. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. (A note: I didn't read the first book in this series and the author gives just enough backstory throughout that I didn't feel I'd missed anything!)
Knowing what I know now about this book, would I still read it if I went back in time?
Yes yes yes! Loved it!
See below for the four criteria I use to decide whether and when to read a book
CHARACTERS: Harry and Toby are in some ways quintessentially British and I love that. It's fascinating to read how their histories lead them to where they are in politics and how they both chose to become MPs for their respective parties. Toby is charming, somewhat brash, and a little looser in his thoughts, using humour as a way to both deflect but also entertain. Meanwhile Harry is as stiff-lipped as you would expect an aristocrat to be. It is clear from the beginning that they have strong feelings for each other, which they misconstrue, but in reality you can see just how similar they are to each other. As the story…
Read on KU.
I enjoyed the first Unlikely Dilemmas book involving Prince Callum and Prime Minister Oliver so I was curious on this next part of the series.
Oliver's best friend, Toby, along with their political rival Harry are the main characters in this story.
When I first started the book it felt kinda of dragging where I left the book several times to read other things but then came back to continue it, I blame it on my dislike of political topics but I agreed a lot with the characters stances on equality and basic human rights.
Needless to say the plane crash brought my attention back and kept it as we see Toby and Harry struggle to survive in the harsh wilderness while also being targeted by hostile enemies.
Their genuine concern for keeping the other safe and alive was so unbelievably sweet, their witty back and forth conversations were entertaining and their chemistry was amazing once their attraction was revealed and explored more.
Even after their rescue they have to go through so much when they're brought back to their harsh reality.
Fair warning that we don't get the explanation of who was after Toby and Harry but author explains in the Author's note why that is.
Big declarations of love to the public seem to be the custom in the books, a bit cliché but romantic nonetheless. After that it seems a little rushed but our main characters are together and that's all that matters.
In the end these two rivals to lovers do get their well deserved HEA. Would…

Falling in love while on the run
This series follows characters first introduced during The Unlikely Heir, Toby and Harry the political enemies to lovers while kidnapped and running through the woods from a would be assassination.
The emotional journey that Toby and Harry go on is nothing short of an epic romance featuring hiding behind a waterfall, trying to not fall for each other, questionable moments of emotional bonding, taking care of needs, only one bed, learning to survive, and also a sauna.
Jax does an amazing job balancing romance with the character development and moving the plot along. She creates wonderful characters that draw you in and make the reader really be invested in the characters happiness.
My thoughts are still really messy and keyboard smash like at the present moment but know that I want to scream at the top of my lungs that everyone NEEDS to read this series.
Loved it! Harry and Toby are very vocal public political rivals.
Their verbal sparring is notorious.
When being unfortunately, late for a scheduled flight causes them both to readjust, travel plans, they end up flying together on a chartered flight to a political conference, Things get even more weird.
A strange convoluted plane crash and kidnapping ends up with Toby and Harry being stranded in a remote forest somewhere in Scandinavia.
I loved the survival aspects of the story. It was interesting exciting fast paced. The romance was slow burn but very heated.. I loved their sarcastic banter..
Really fun romance very likable characters well written .

This book is literally perfect! It has everything! Enemies to lovers, close proximity, and completely UNPREDICTABLE! It’s got action, suspense, romance, hilarious dialogue, and it makes you feel every emotion possible. I laughed out loud so hard so often. I cried A LOT and loved every minute of it.
