Description

Professional hockey player Elias Thorne has spent his career perfecting the art of keeping his head down and his secrets buried. For Elias, the ice is a sanctuary where the pressure of the game outweighs the silent ache of his lonely personal life. However, when a sudden roster shake-up brings a talented new teammate into his orbit, the carefully constructed walls around his heart begin to crack. As the trade deadline looms, the frantic pace of the professional hockey world collides with the slow, simmering tension between two men navigating the complexities of attraction in the unforgiving spotlight of the NHL. With the clock ticking on their time together and the weight of public perception pressing in, they must decide if the risk of falling for a teammate is worth the gamble of a lifetime. A.L. Heard delivers a heartfelt, character-driven romance that captures the grit of the rink and the vulnerability of opening up to someone new. It is a story of performance versus authenticity, exploring whether two men caught in the high-stakes churn of professional sports can find a shared future before the buzzer sounds. This is a must-read for fans of nuanced, emotional slow-burns set against the chilling intensity of the ice.

Loved it

Really solid hockey romance. I liked this author's first book, and I think this one is even better – the pacing and the balance of dialogue to introspection to action were spot on this time. I really liked both Ryan and Lars. They are both well rounded characters, and their relationship was compelling and believable. The dual POV was very well done. The characters have distinct enough voices that I don't think I ever had to flip back to the beginning of the chapter to check whose POV it was. The plot was not particularly unique, but who cares when the story is well written? I enjoyed every minute reading this book, and I think after this, AL Heard is going on my list of authors who I will automatically preorder from.

satisfying

I liked the characters she created. People are just weird, including athletes in love. Which seems really realistic. Fun read.

Looooved it!

This story is so fun and sweet. The characters are delightful and engaging, the hockey is intense, and I like the spice too. I read the whole thing in a day because I couldn't put it down. I really like this author a lot, and that they continue their books with short stories on their own website, so I can revisit the characters in little vignettes.

Fantastic hockey romance

I adored this book. Came across it on an Amazon recommendation and am so thankful I did. Have already re-read it once. Both MCs are likable and believable as 20-something males who aren’t great at communicating. And even with the communication struggles, there are no ridiculous miscommunications that so many books suffer from. The spice is perfect and well written—completely disagree with another reviewer who thought it seemed stilted. Since I read this book, I immediately read everything else I could find by this author and was disappointed in the lack of spice in the other books, to be honest. (They were all still lovely, though, just not quite what I expected after starting with this one). My literal only complaint is that the author said Montana was in the Midwest lol. I have read a lot of hockey romances and this one was obviously written by someone who knows and loves the game. One of my top five for sure. Highly recommend!!

solid. maybe a little long winded

I just don’t know that any MM hockey romance novel needs to be almost 500 pages. Could have used some editing. But I loved the Ryan character.
