Description

Enya and Willow are daughters of circumstance, brought into each other’s orbits when a rekindled friendship between their mothers forces them together for a summer on the Mediterranean coast. Amid the shimmering heat and salt-crusted air, what begins as a reluctant proximity transforms into a profound, life-altering pull. For one season, they exist in a cocoon of discovery, sharing a intimacy that seems both inevitable and fragile. But summer, by its nature, is a fleeting season. As the sun fades and their paths diverge, the distance between them grows, haunted by the memory of what they once shared. Spanning decades, the narrative traces the ache of their separation and the persistent shadow of that transformative summer. It is a nuanced exploration of the fierce bonds between women—as mothers, friends, and lovers—who must navigate the wreckage of timing and the weight of unfinished business. The Salt on Our Skin captures the bittersweet reality of young love that refuses to be forgotten. It asks the haunting question of whether an encounter is merely a brief intersection in a busy life, or the definitive story that shapes everything else to come. This is a resonant, evocative tale about losing someone too easily and spending a lifetime wondering if it was a beginning or an end.

An emotional love story ❤️

Rhea Ellis, a debut novel author wrote The Salt On Our Skin and she wrote it exquisitely. I wasn’t so sure what to expect from this book initially, but truth be told, I was quite surprised when I read the setting of the story which was set in Greece for the most part, with what I imagined a very Mediterranean vibe, something totally different from all other books I’ve read and a refreshing take, especially since it also hit home. The book was not your typical sappy love story between Willow and Enya, but it offered a real and raw look at intimacy and desire explored between two individuals who found each other after meeting in Greece for the first time and then having to return back to their normal lives after a few weeks. This book also navigated, quite brilliantly and realistically might I add, the hardships that come with a long distance relationship, longing, insecurities, heartache, grief and solitude ❤️‍🩹 Although Ellis wrote intimacy between the two, this book was not big on spice, yet Ellis did an incredible job at capturing raw emotions and feelings, not just from the FMCs but also elicited them from me as the reader, as I could not help but feel all the feels as I read along, each word carefully and deliberately chosen on purpose to immerse you in the story and make you feel precisely what the FMC was feeling. I was genuinely interested to see how the story was going to unfold and it did get my heart in a knot at some point throughout the book - THAT is how…

Beautiful Love Story

A beautifully written poetic novella about finding love in a place you least expected to and fighting against the odds to keep it. The Salt On Our Skin will probably stay in my heart forever, and I’ll gladly keep it. The love story of Willow and Enya deeply captivated me, and I just couldn’t put the book down even if I tried. Which I didn't. Ellis meticulously painted Greece in a way that felt like I spent the summer there, and I didn’t want to go home. Their families and friends felt realistic and each stood out in their own way, so I fell in love with them too. All the affection, yearning, and love had a vice grip on my heart that wouldn’t let go until the very end. Willow and Enya won me over and fans of sapphic love stories where you can emotionally connect with the characters will enjoy it too. I highly recommend giving this a read.
