Description

In the neon-drenched, shadowy corners of Tokyo, the Metropolitan Police Department handles more than just standard crimes. For Detective Terou, the job has always been about logic and cold, hard facts—until a gruesome, inexplicable series of murders forces him into the world of the occult. To survive, he is paired with Shinji, an enigmatic investigator whose connection to the spirit realm is as unsettling as it is necessary. As they peel back the layers of a conspiracy that threatens to unravel the city’s supernatural underworld, the friction between the grounded, cynical detective and the ethereal, guarded shifter ignites a spark neither expected. They must navigate a landscape of vengeful entities and hidden agendas, all while trying to decipher the growing magnetic pull between them. The Red Collar is a pulse-pounding fusion of procedural grit and slow-burn paranormal passion. Against the backdrop of Japan’s most atmospheric city, Terou and Shinji must reconcile their clashing philosophies and turbulent pasts to solve a mystery that refuses to stay buried. When lines between the living and the dead blur, the only thing they can trust is the undeniable, dangerous bond forming in the dark.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS SERIES!!!

Loved the main characters and though the chemistry was a slow burn, I love how they played off each other. Their banter, their sexual tension, such a great read. The series kept my attention that I read all 3 books within a week! I added M. Kato to my follow list for sure! Thanks for wonderful storylines and great MC's.

Mystery and romance

This is a great combination of mystery, romance and sensuality. The author draws you into a mysterious world of life and death. The main characters are introduced in a way to make you want to know more about them and how their relationship will develop. There were a point when the villain became obvious to me but getting there was a great ride. And the intimate moments are really steamy.

A great read!

The perfect pair of homicide cops! Hot-tempered Teruo falls for cool-as-ice Shinji, but things get complicated when Teruo begins to suspect that Shinji can talk to the ghosts of murder victims!

Flying By

"The Red Collar" had pages flying by. The murder mystery kept making sudden and unexpected turns for me until the final climax. The romance between Tenuro and Shinji kept the love wheels turning to punctuate the events. M. Kato created a gripping paranormal world filled with its own rules and consequences that parallel the earthly ones of the two homicide detectives. Enjoy!

An interesting start to a new series

I read The Red Collar because the summary intrigued me. It turned out to be a surprisingly enjoyable and fun read. I've always loved the combination of mediums/psychics with mystery/crime in general so this book was just right up my alley. The romantic relationship between Teruo and Shinji happened fast but personally I found that it worked rather well for the two of them. The chemistry was definitely there and the banter and interaction between the two was fun and engaging. The case was IMO, rather straightforward even with its supernatural elements. However, it was spun in a way lent itself to be interesting. The story took place in Japan and the characters were all Japanese. I liked the subtle touches used by the writer to make the setting feel believable. The lore was fascinating including the organization that Shinji was a member of as well as the ability that Teruo has. Hopefully, these and more will be explored in the next book. The writer also was able to combine the mysterious and supernatural atmosphere with that of a detective/crime story quite well. There were some parts where the pacing was slow and the dialogue a bit rough, but those parts didn't bother me as much. I'd like to know more about Teruo and Shinji's past and hopefully we get more of that in the next book. Overall, I had a good time reading this book and I do recommend giving it a try. 4 stars out of 5 stars.
