Description

Ambrose has dedicated his life to the healing arts, but when his sister faces a desperate peril, he makes the ultimate sacrifice. He volunteers as tribute to the Barbarians, trading his quiet life in the city for the rugged, unpredictable world of the steppes. He expects hostility and hardship, but he finds himself under the watchful eye of Godr, a formidable horsemaster whose gruff exterior masks a deeply protective heart. As the two men navigate the tension between their vastly different cultures, their temporary arrangement shifts into something neither anticipated. Godr is not the savage the history books described, and Ambrose is far more resilient than he appears. Amidst the sweeping landscapes and the camaraderie of a growing community, they discover a profound connection that challenges everything they thought they knew about home and belonging. This installment brings the warmth of a returning cast, allowing readers to catch up with beloved characters from previous stories while falling for a new, tender romance. It is a story of sacrifice, unexpected devotion, and the quiet power of finding your person in the most unlikely of places. Whether you are a longtime fan of the series or discovering these warriors for the first time, this journey of the heart is one you will not want to miss.

::sigh:: So good.

I hope this series goes on for a long time! Part of it is that you get to see all the previous characters so u feel like their stories continue too. It’s just so good! It’s got all the feels and any drama is usually very quickly resolved. To the point I’d say this was almost a low-angst read. It’s a dual POV which is super nice to get both sides of the story. There’s NO cheating. Heat level 1/5? There are intimate moments but it’s way more about the feelings than a descriptive love scene. A very HEA. I do wish it was longer just bc I wanted to see more of the life they get to lead once they’re together.

Godr has been such a fun character earlier in this series and seeing him meet Ambrose and fall in love was amazing! Ambrose was a very interesting character that I enjoyed reading the perspective of. The romance was great and the story itself was cute, easy to read, and fun.

The Grumpy Doctor

Ambrose, a doctor, volunteers as tribute to the Barbarians to save his sister. Godr, the horsemaster becomes his temporary protector until Ambrose is sent to his new clan's home. A misunderstanding causes their enjoyable intimacy but brings them closer together with their feelings. I love this series, each barbarian and tribute so different, their misunderstandings, the learning about each other and the awakening of the grumpy doctor to his gentle protector.
