Description

The pressure of the ice is nothing compared to the heat rising between two teammates in the fifth installment of the SCU Hockey series. As the final buzzer approaches for their collegiate careers, the stakes have never been higher, both on the rink and in their personal lives. For these athletes, the game has always been about strength and strategy, but now they must navigate the most complex play of all: vulnerability. This story masterfully captures the slow-burn evolution of a bond built on a foundation of genuine friendship and unwavering trust. As the protagonists grapple with the looming uncertainty of their futures, they find that their greatest challenge isn't the scoreboard, but the fear of risking their hearts for a shot at something permanent. It is a deeply emotional journey that explores the courage required to be truly seen by the one person who matters most. Readers will find themselves breathless as the narrative balances intense, high-stakes sports action with intimate, quiet moments of revelation. Wonderful Conclusion to My Favorite Series

I’ve made no secret of my appreciation for JJ Mulder and the incredible universe she’s created with her Offsides and SCU Hockey series. For a while, I was sure that Anthony Lawson was the greatest character ever created. But then there was Luke Kelly, Max enthusiast. And then Henry Vasel, the most patient man in existence. And then Nate Basset, pure sunshine with absolutely zero chill. Jack McIntire, though? I would adopt Micky in a heartbeat. I would feed him six square meals a day, (veggies included), buy him all the books he could possibly read, and hire a bouncer to guard his door so that he could avoid all human contact if he desired. Jack deserves all the love in the world, and thankfully Nate and Desmond and Parker are going to give it to him.

Desmond + Jack (Mickey Mouse) | Final book

SCU Hockey: Book 5 ● No Spice ● Available on KU The final book in the SCU Hockey Series did not disappoint. I'll admit, I was hesitant going in because of the "no spice" but this story carried itself and it wasn't at all needed. I had a brief moment where I screamed in my head "Just touch each other"…LOL, but other than that - I didn't even miss it. There was such a strong foundation built on friendship and support. And the physicality of their relationship (what they were both comfortable with) or even wanted from a relationship perfectly aligned with who they were as people. Parker (Desmond's nephew) stole the show many times for me. I love this kid with my whole heart. Don't skip the bonus epilogue told from Parker's POV - I'm really hoping this means a Parker book in the future.

Micky + Desmond and a pinch of Parker for teenage snark and angst and its a winning combo.

I think this is a biased review because I am Micky and Micky is me. But I loved this book, does it bring the spice?? Not exactly. But it doesn't need it. J.J. Mulder is able to write romance and intimacy in a way that doesn't even need 50 over the top sex scenes. The characters are so well developed and three dimensional. I wouldn't say this is my absolute favorite of the series (that honor goes to one touch pass, or maybe the last buzzer), but these two are so perfect for each other. On top of being wonderful in its own right this book wraps everything up in a perfect bow. My only question that remains is.... will grown up Parker be getting his own book???

heartwarming story about found family

I have read all 9 books in this series, and this one has me feeling very emotional. The story itself is very good. There are moments that are left out, which I missed seeing/reading, but that did not detract from how much I appreciated these characters and their journey. I’m sad that this is the last in the series. I hope we get more about all of these characters.

Beautiful story!

This is such a beautiful story! The characters are deep and nuanced. The relationship had me captivated. I loved that it wasn't your typical romance. The representation of sexualities that aren't often explored in the romance genre were wonderfully done.
