Sweet and medium slow burn plus mystery
I had to read a witchy book for the Halloween season and since I scare easily, romance it is! This was a solid sequel to The Ex Hex with some shared characters but mainly just the setting. Gwyn was a supporting character, Vivi's cousin, in book 1 and she shares the dual third-person POV with Wells, Rhys' brother.
I love a dual POV for a romance and this one worked great. We get more rivalry them enemies to lovers. There was a past connection (never fully explored) but a bit of snobbery on both parts. The attraction is set off by magic...or is it?
I enjoyed the bits of sleuthing, Gwen being a mentor, the small town festival fun, and the talking cat. There are at least 3 well-defined spicy scenes but a few fade to black scenes so it's not gratuitous.
The villain isn't immediately clear and there is some misdirection. I also liked that Vivi and Rhys are away on their honeymoon for the majority of the book. Our lovebirds don't have to sneak around and they get to be the focus.
The book moves along at a good pace, plenty of humor, some heart, and lots of charm. Ready for book 3!

Kiss and Spell: This Magic Omen
It had been more than a week since my last post (mom life, am I right?). So it was high time I caved and gave up the ghost. Or maybe I should say sorceress. Because I just read Erin Sterling's The Kiss Curse.
In this sequel to The Ex Hex, we return to Graves Glen, Georgia, to shadow, not Viv, but her equally charmed and charming cousin Gwyn. With a personality as fiery as her pink-streaked hair, Gwyn runs a Halloween-themed shop called Something Wicked -- and Graves Glen -- with a cauldron of confidence. But when her college crush, fellow witch Wells Penhallow, moves back to town, her brew is set askew. The imperious Wells opens a competing shop, stoking Gwyn's (already considerable) ire. So when the two share a kiss so killer it must be cursed, all hellfire breaks loose. Yet the spellbinding snog is small pumpkins compared to the discovery that someone has stolen Gwyn's powers. With Vivi away on her honeymoon, Gwyn has no choice but to join forces with Wells. So they work to find out who has it out for Gwyn, all while trying not to bewitch each other.
I loved getting lost in this fey fairy tale. Light but slightly edgy (it is about the occult), The Kiss Curse is full of Halloween fun, conjuring up both tricks and treats.

Cute, but not too exciting.
The book is fine, we are halfway through. Might be too similar to the first book in series for my taste. I am hoping a big twist (or something) is coming soon.
I am absolutely NOT normally a paranormal romance reader. I only read contemporary romances and I'm such a square that I can barely tolerate stories that revilive around a ridiculous inheritance stipulation.
But damned if I didn't end up loving THE KISS CURSE!
I loved the enemies-to-lovers hate banter.
I loved the fiesty, quirky, badass heroine, Gwyn.
I loved the slightly stuffy, uptight, Wells.
I loved the story and the magic and the epically hot steamy scenes.
I loved the super sweet HEA.
Even if paranormal isn't your usual read, you should give THE KISS CURSE a read! Maybe it will convert you too. Now, lemme finish up this book review so I can go back and read the first book in this series! Am I....am I into witchy romances now? *cue: identity crisis*
𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠 𝗟𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗟: Rated R / 1-4 descriptive sex scenes, may have harsh language.
𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗦: past death of parent
𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗟𝗦: 2/5 - A bit of drama, but still a pretty light read.
"The KISS Curse" is a delightful and enchanting read that sweeps you into a world filled with Halloween magic and romance. The story follows a spirited protagonist who finds herself in a charming town with a rich history of curses and love. As she navigates her feelings and the quirky traditions of the town, the atmospheric setting makes you want to pack your bags and experience the Halloween vibes for yourself!
I’d give it a solid four stars! The writing is engaging, and the blend of romance and Halloween spirit is just perfect. It definitely makes me want to move there and soak up all the festive energy.
