Description

Varis has spent two years in self-imposed exile, hunkered down on a decaying ship moored in the lawless waters beyond Monsmount. He clings to a hoard of plundered treasure, viewing it as his only ticket to autonomy. To return home is a death sentence, binding him to a cold, ancestral altar as a sacrifice to a heartless god. But the solitude of his maritime refuge is shattered when a dragon—a legendary creature of power and myth—starts circling his vessel, upending everything he thought he knew about survival. Meanwhile, Ghreiden, the youngest prince of a broken kingdom, is tasked with the impossible: restoring a squalid, dying port to its former glory. Exhausted by the corruption of the clergy and the wreckage of a failing economy, he is on the precipice of surrender. Yet, destiny has other plans. Drawn to a desolate stretch of coastline littered with shipwrecks, he discovers that his political exile is, in truth, an appointment with fate. As the lives of these two men collide amidst the rising tides and shifting allegiances, they discover that their connection is ancient, dangerous, and the only force capable of saving them from the ruinous greed consuming their world.

The greed of ruin

I was super excited to read this book after reading the first one in the series. This author has the ability to draw you into the book, and you feel like you're living it out. I always feel like I'm a part of the story. And who doesn't love dragons?. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

“They say that the ashen are born from mankind to remind dragons..."

“They say that the ashen are born from mankind to remind dragons that from the least of you come great things." This is book 2 in the series Sins of Balthier by Lilo Quie. When I saw this on Booksprout I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen to the next dragon brother. I was not disappointed. Another ashen is found and again he was mistreated by the people that should have protected and loved him. Instead he grew up believing he was cursed and destined to be sacrificed. Ghreiden, brother of Mezerath, the king of Sauria, is assigned to rule and rebuild a war torn territory to make it prosperous again. Fated to meet, surviving on a deserted ship wreck while waiting for the war to end, guarding the ship's treasure in hopes of buying his freedom, evil priests, sometimes your savior is someone you never expected, brother antics, meggs

Keep the dragons coming!

The thing I love about Lilo’s books is are always different instead of being the same plot over and over again. And I absolutely love every one of her dragon characters. Ghreid and Varis are a match, and I can’t wait to see the rest of the brothers find their mates!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Ha! These dragons got bite

Quick page-turner, with a spikier love interest for the dragon than the first book in the series. There was more world-building and more character seeding for future installments. Lilo Quie is great at taking an initially unsympathetic side character and making you like them (or at least understand them. A smidge). Yay for man-eating dragons! In all the ways!
