Description

After twenty-five years of partnership, Jeffrey and Ray find their marriage hanging by a fragile thread. Devastated by Ray’s past infidelity and struggling to bridge the widening chasm of silence between them, the couple decides to take a desperate, high-stakes gamble: competing in The Big Race. This global reality television competition offers a million-dollar prize, but for these two men, the true objective is far more elusive than a trophy. As they are thrust from the sweltering humidity of Panama to the frigid peaks of the French Alps, the race forces them into a relentless cycle of physical and emotional endurance. Beneath the constant surveillance of cameras, they must strip away years of resentment and defense mechanisms. For Jeffrey, a reserved computer programmer, the journey means moving beyond his need for control, while Ray, a fierce former athlete, must realize that the most meaningful battles aren’t won with grit, but with vulnerability. From navigating foreign markets to overcoming treacherous terrain, they face the ultimate test of their bond. In this poignant second-chance romance, the journey proves that while the race is grueling, the hardest steps are those taken toward forgiveness. Will they cross the finish line together, or will this adventure mark their final goodbye?

Another Romantic Hit for Plakcy

Neil Plakcy has done it again, writing emotional, damaged, real human beings trying to get through their lives and loves. In this novel, a middle-aged couple finds their too-comfortable life in ruins when one husband is caught cheating. They agree to try counseling but when their college-student son challenges them to enter a reality show together, they realize that would be a way to reconnect and see if they could recapture what has made them such good partners in the beginning. Can Jeffrey and Ray win the realtor race—and even more importantly, can they find their way back to the team they used to be? Plakcy’s characters are far from cardboard cutouts and that’s what makes this such a good read. Nothing comes easily for them, not even rebuilding their relationship. I won’t spoil things with hints but if you enjoy second-chance romances, give The Big Race a try. I think you’ll be happy you did!

Regaining trust during an epic adventure

This was a fun (Big Race adventures all over the world!) but also thought provoking read. Jeffrey and Ray have hit a rough patch in their marriage after 25 years together. They still love each other and are truly seeking a way to reconnect. They are empty nesters that pursued their own different interests after their son Leo became a young adult. Their partnership was strong when Leo became part of their family, and they want to regain that closeness. They decide to audition for the Big Race to reconnect. Is it smooth going? No. They really have to work on themselves and their relationship as they attempt to win the Big Race. I liked the excitement of their adventure, but I appreciated seeing them work toward their goal of HEA. I definitely recommend this story. I have never read one quite like it before.

Neil at his best!

Such a fan of the Mahu series and Bodyguard books!! Also watch the Amazing Race every season. So this book hit the mark for me. Great characters set in the exciting "race around the world" environment. Mr Plakcy does romance and adventure again!

Perfect book.

I have followed your books since I first found the Hawaii series back in Florida. This one was well written and such a change from the normal M2M books. Thank you and hoping we see another Nathan Greene soon.

VERY FUN BOOK!

As a huge fan of both Neal and The Amazing Race this book was lots of fun to me. Well written and very descriptive. I really felt like I was visiting all these places. I intend to go back and google the places mentioned in the book and see how my mental image matches up. The characters are equally well written and I really felt like I knew them by the end of the book.
