Description

In a kingdom tethered to the weight of its own history, power is never simply inherited; it is a burden etched into the bloodline. The Balance of Fates introduces a world where the echoes of ancient decisions dictate the present, forcing a new generation to step out from the long, oppressive shadows of their ancestors. At the heart of this narrative are complex, deeply human characters struggling to reconcile their personal desires with the rigid demands of a society defined by high-stakes political maneuvering. As the protagonist navigates a web of systemic expectations and the lingering sting of generational trauma, she finds herself drawn into an unexpected, tender romance. This connection serves as a vital anchor, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the calculated dangers of court life and shifting alliances. Raquel Raelynn masterfully weaves together themes of duty, identity, and the courage required to forge one’s own path. By balancing intricate world-building with authentic internal struggles, the story captures the quiet intensity of finding love in a landscape primed for betrayal. It is a compelling exploration of growth and defiance, perfect for readers who crave character-driven fiction where the consequences of the past must be faced to secure a liberated future.

Fantastic First Book!!!

This well written book had me invested from the first chapter. Unique characters with well developed personalities and motives. The main character was one of the best I've read in a while. Her struggles are very valid and we get to watch Lucia develop in spite of her trama, of which there is much. The story has many aspects without feeling conveluteted. I went on a journey with the character growing organically in so many ways. I can't wait until the next book!

Finally a New Adult Sapphic Supernatural Romance with BIPOC!

Why aren’t there more books I can describe like that?! I saw this book on TikTok and had to buy it. While there was some repetition in the writing (like information would be stated for the reader, then a chapter later a character would say the same thing as though it was a surprise or reveal) - ultimately none of this took me out of the story. This story felt very new adult - and I mean that in the best of ways. There are a variety of characters between the ages of 18 and young 20s. While you don’t get to know all of them to the same level of familiarity, one thing they have in common: they’re all figuring their *ish out. I enjoy my fully-formed supernatural Adult Romance, but if you’re going to go new adult, DO IT. Let them be on the verge of discovering new worlds, new responsibilities, new aspects of themselves, realize the lies their elders have told them, and struggle with those realities as they attempt to uphold their responsibilities and expectations of themselves. Let them fall in love and think it could be forever. All of these experiences are different at 15 then at 20 - and they shouldn’t read the same. The author did a great job doing that. Ultimately, I really enjoyed this book. It had drama, but not too much; and, went light on the love traingle - as in it didn’t exist! Yay! I did have a few worries: There is a fake language in the book, and while it sounded like it was based on a real language - that could’ve just been my pronunciation. I also got a…

warm slow burn

I had pure panic when I got to the end and realized the second book wasn’t out yet! Thank whatever full moon is going on cause I don’t have to wait long. With my theatrics out of the way, this story had me hooked from the start. The way the author set up the beginnings of a first queer crush, relationship felt spot on to me. The rough family dynamics and political landscape was very thoughtful. There’s spice..I wouldn’t have minded more.

breathtakingly good

You felt every scene, you felt the characters emotion. You felt drawn into wanting to know more about them, wanting to know who did what there was mystery. There was surprised situations you didn’t expect. But what I love most about this book is that it took you on a journey and it teaches you life lessons you read this book and you think it’s just gonna be about paranormal or sapphic but it was so much more. I am very happy. I got this book.

great book, hell of a cliff hanger

WOOF. There’s a lot going on here, and the MC has enough issues to fill a moving van. She has a good heart, but is so sheltered, it’s painful. The characters have real hang ups, nobody is perfect or super versions of themselves, and the important twists you don’t see coming. Good read, looking forward to the next book.
