This was an excellent read. A lot of history researched-well developed characters. Some crying on my part while reading this book- After finishing this book I had a better understanding of what my parents and the world went through during this war. Highly recommend
I thoroughly enjoyed The Air Raid Book Club. Loved the characters and the story of Berries life owning Bingham Books. I do believe she would have been a good friend.

Heartwarming WWII historical fiction
This story is set in London during WWII and centers on a widow who owns a bookstore and agrees to take in a 16 year old German Jewish girl whose family sent her to England when they saw the handwriting on the wall about Hitler and the Jews. The two become very close, and help out with the war effort with book club meetings during air raids and sending books to British soldiers at the front. There are lots of interesting characters and mentions of books, ideal for avid readers.

How books can save lives!
Beautiful historical fiction! A London bookshop owner, recently widowed, is asked to take on a Jewish refuge child. Gertie reluctantly agrees, and 15 year old Hedy arrives. Through teenage angst, language barriers, and air raids, a bond forms between Gertie and Hedy, but what happened to Hedy's parents and brother? A story of sacrifice, love, loss, how books can save lives, more love, and... Loved it!
