Description

In the opulent, matriarchal Queendom of Aselyn, power is draped in silk and tradition. Lady Temperance of Lilithaina is poised to become the future Duchess, an ascension that demands rigid adherence to the expectations of her noble lineage. Yet, beneath the veneer of courtly etiquette and political maneuvering, Temperance harbors a secret that threatens to dismantle her carefully ordered world: she is hopelessly in love with her handmaiden, Amity. Their bond, forged in childhood and deepened by years of proximity, is a fragile, illicit sanctuary. As Temperance enters the highest echelons of the sisterhood of nobility, the stakes of their intimacy skyrocket. When the Queen’s own daughter, Princess Verity, turns her gaze toward Temperance, the political pressure to secure a noble marriage becomes suffocating. Suddenly, their hidden romance shifts from a private heartache to a dangerous liability that could destroy their reputations—or worse. Set against a backdrop of rigid social hierarchies and the intoxicating allure of female power, Temperance and Amity explores the crushing cost of duty and the resilience of forbidden love. It is a sweeping, emotional journey that asks how much one is willing to sacrifice for the one person the world insists they cannot have.

Much more than a romance novel

I totally enjoyed this book in so many ways! You may come to it wanting a love story, and it delivers a compelling one, but you get a whole lot more. Great world building. Well developed characters. Strong feminist themes. And it’s a trope-buster! The typical “regency romance” conceit has really been turned on its head and it’s full of moments where the plot zigs when you expect it to zag. But the book also knows exactly what it is and remains true to its characters and their world. I couldn’t put it down. Very highly recommended for all fans of the genre, especially if you’re looking for a story with a fresh pov.

Sapphic Princesses

4.5 Stars A fantastic choice to start 2026--on the 1 yr release anniversary no less. Temperance isn't your typical Princess and this is definitely not your typical fairy-tale. Characters are deep and feel genuine in their exploration of secret and not-so-secret sapphic love. The dramatic irony is perfection when the political intrigue starts to unfold and a plan is needed to thwart the Queen's plans of revenge. A great story from start to finish!

WOW…An unexpected, captivating delight!

OMG, this book! You really fall in love with the characters and root for their romance so hard! I LOVED that it made me laugh nearly as much as it made me cry (and I did plenty of both) and that it kept going places I wasn’t expecting it to. Great twists! For me it had just the right amount of spice. It’s somehow both sexy and innocent at the same time if that makes any sense. It’s sort of a slow burn to start but god, then the drama and intrigue really amp up and the ending is immensely satisfying. What a journey. I can’t wait for more!!

beautiful

Heartbreaking, raw and honest. In a time where duty is brought forth before one’s heart, there is no happily ever after in this story of love, only strength and courage to be with the one you desire and support without fully giving your heart.

Truly remarkable, both heart-wrenching and joyous

Simply put, this is the most beautiful sapphic romance story I’ve ever read. The pure love and devotion between Temperance and Amity comes across vividly and is incredibly palpable, but beyond their romance, there is such a strong current of "women-supporting-women" and sisterhood in their relationship, that it just elevates the emotions of the story to a whole other level. The story starts small and intimate, but then the world becomes wonderfully expansive, is richly detailed and provides truly character-driven conflicts and heartbreaking decisions. At times it’s also insanely funny. Countless stirring moments and it both satisfies and leaves you wanting more. Just stellar.
