Description

Opposites collide in the most electrifying way in Stealing Home, the latest installment of Grace Reilly’s addictive Beyond the Play series. This high-stakes sports romance explores the friction between two worlds: the structured, disciplined realm of elite athletics and the colorful, spontaneous chaos of the heart. The story follows a classic grumpy-sunshine dynamic that crackles with undeniable chemistry from the very first page. As our reluctant protagonist finds their carefully curated life disrupted by the unexpected, they are forced to navigate the blurred lines between professional duty and undeniable desire. Against the backdrop of the high-pressure sports industry, the characters must confront their own vulnerabilities, past baggage, and the terrifying prospect of letting someone truly see them behind the public facade. With its signature balance of sharp, witty banter and unapologetically steamy tension, Reilly masterfully builds an emotional rollercoaster that feels both intimate and grand. As the lead characters engage in a dangerous game of cat and mouse, readers will find themselves rooting for them to drop their guards and finally embrace the love they’ve been trying to outrun. It is a heartfelt, spicy, and thoroughly modern exploration of identity and connection that proves once and for all: the best plays are the ones you never see coming.

This book was wonderful and amazing. It was an instant love and connection between the characters and me. I have read Grace’s other books and Stealing Home did not disappoint. Sebastian Miller- Callahan has probably stolen the #1 spot of the Callahan brothers, and rightfully so. Him and Mia’s love story was realistic and invigorating. I did not want to put it down once I started reading. There’s amazing banter, spice, and a great story. Each character is intelligent and driven, ready to reach their goals. Mia is strong willed, and determined to make a name for herself in the field of Science. I LOVED seeing her character and how hard working she was. A bad ass female character and a supportive man, was icing on the cake. Both characters have their own struggles throughout the book so the focus was not solely on the relationship. Sometimes romance books can be bland without that, but not this one. I loved being able to see the characters as individuals as well as a couple. It meshed so perfectly. It’s a sports romance, grumpy/sunshine, woman in STEM, and a 2nd chance romance. All wonderful tropes. Did I mention that Seb cooks?? A dream. Grace is absolutely a beautiful writer and magical in her stories. Please give this book a read you won’t regret it.

Must read for all romance lovers

"I know what I deserve, which is what I want. And what I want is for you to be in my life, whatever that looks like.” If you've read Grace Reilly's previous work, be prepared to cry. Sebastian's story is nowhere near as lighthearted as his brothers. It still has its funny moments, but this is not the book to read if you don't want all of the feels. This book is the "continuation" of Sebastian and Mia's story, which sneakily starts in Breakaway. The story includes tidbits throughout their year, but primarily takes place after their "breakup". Told from both points of view, the reader gets to know Mia's reasoning behind disliking relationships while also learning Seb's feelings about not being with Mia. Reilly does a great job of getting into both of their heads so the reader feels like they truly get to know these characters. Mia's story is about standing up to a family who has different ideals. Sebastian's is about learning to go after what he truly wants. Together, they learn to love and grow into the best versions of themselves. This is a couple who truly is better together than apart. They complement each other so well and continuously strive to push the other to be better. Their story feels real. Besides the "top MLB draft hopeful" plot, everything about their story feels like it can happen to anyone. Growing up is hard. Finding your path in life amidst external voices is tough. Between an overbearing family and living up to your deceased parents dreams, these two do…

Seb was everything!

I enjoyed Sebastian very much! The plot was decent and it was easy to read. What I did not enjoy was Mia’s lack of growth throughout the story and her inability to communicate and running away instead. Their story was sweet and I understand the being afraid but I was not thrilled that the author didn’t show more of her growth. On the other hand Seb was EVERYTHING! His growth was fantastic and he was just swoony and written so well. This story was okay overall but definitely not my favorite in the whole series.

Quite liked it

My first baseball romance and I quite liked it. The ending was pleasantly surprising and heartwarming. Seb is the kind of guy most if not all girls want—patient, gentle, and carefree. Mia is afraid of commitment at first, until Seb proves why he’d be worth the sacrifice. This was enjoyable to read, especially since I wasn’t looking for something that would require my brain to overthink.

Another reason why 'black cat x golden retriever' is an elite trope

I fell in love with this series from the moment I started it, and I was SO excited for Stealing Home. I also had a feeling this book would be my favorite… AND I WAS RIGHT 🤭 Mia is our ambitious and intelligent queen. She keeps a lot of things to herself because of her upbringing, but her love for astronomy is the one constant in her life that she’ll never give up 🌟Sebastian is a baseball star who is secretly struggling with his past and future ⚾On top of that, he’s still hung up on Mia, who he had a no-strings-attached relationship with before she ghosted him out of the blue. But when fate steps in, it forces the two of them back together to confront what really happened between them months ago while also opening up the possibility for more… 👀 Though Mia is prickly on the surface and may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I absolutely loved her from the start 🤍The more I got to know her, the more I felt for her and related to her. And don’t even get me started on the perfection that is Sebastian ✋He’s a golden retriever sweetheart to his core, and I truly adored him so much 😭 He also really serves boy falls first + falls hard + falls EVEN HARDER 😫I just loved how these two were together, especially the way they supported and accepted each other for everything that they were. They showed one another in their own ways that they deserved to be unconditionally loved, and I just thought that was so beautiful 🥹 Also, Sebastian knowing how to cook + him always calling her…
