Description

In the rugged, isolated expanse of New Zealand’s West Coast, life in Silver Bend is defined by familiar routines and quiet solitude. For Alex Winter, the town's lone police officer, the biggest threats are usually wandering livestock. That peace evaporates the moment a hiker finds a traveler’s body hidden in the dense, unforgiving bush, dragging a two-decade-old cold case back into the light. Enter Rowan Price, a sharp-witted British liaison sent to manage the investigation. Rowan is everything Alex has spent her life avoiding: sophisticated, intimidatingly brilliant, and dangerously captivating. As the two women traverse the treacherous wilderness to hunt a killer, their professional boundaries begin to fray under the weight of an undeniable, scorching chemistry. The deeper they probe into the town’s history, the clearer it becomes that the secrets of Silver Bend are as deeply rooted as its ancient forests. In a place where silence is a survival skill, Alex must decide what she is willing to risk when the truth threatens to destroy the town and her self-control alike. This is a high-stakes game of shadows and desire, where the only thing more lethal than the past is the feeling pulling two strangers together.

Not an Ordinary Mystery

W.L. Ward gives readers characters with multi-layered personalities, sensuality, unguarded sexual desires, engaging banter, and humor. A must read if you are looking for a well developed mystery with heat, passion, and unforgettable characters.

Hot 🔥🔥

This was such a fun book! The storyline was simple but well thought out and well written. Alex and Rowan were wonderful characters and their chemistry was off the charts. Barney was hilarious and I found myself laughing at the banter between the three of them often. The spice was top notch and plentiful. Im so excited to read whatever W.L. Ward comes up with next.

Whoa!

This book genuinely caught me by surprise. I picked it up expecting a quick, in-between read, but it turned out to be far more engaging than I anticipated. The writing flows smoothly, making it an easy and enjoyable read from start to finish. One of the highlights for me was the characters. Each one had a distinct personality and unique quirks that made them feel lively and memorable. I appreciated how their backstories were woven into the narrative, though I did find myself wishing for a bit more depth in that area. While the world-building was fairly minimal, it didn’t take away from the experience—I was still able to picture the setting clearly enough to stay immersed in the story. And let’s talk about the spice level—it definitely delivers. 🔥 Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would absolutely recommend giving it a read.

Great story and locale!

Received this as an ARC from the author. This first few lines of this book had me wanting to catch a flight to New Zealand! Beautiful descriptions of the natural beauty of the country introduce you to Silver Bend-a very small town in New Zealand. The discovery that reopens a 20 year old mystery helps introduce us to Alex the local police officer and Rowan a British official that comes to help. I enjoyed the mystery storyline-it had me very engaged. The spice was hot and the main characters definitely enjoyed themselves! I’m hoping for a sequel where we can learn more about them and their lives but all in all a really enjoyable read and will look for other books by this author!

Good read

I read this as an ARC and this is my honest review. The mystery was engaging and the spice was pretty good. I wish we had gotten deeper into the two FMCs though, we really learned nothing about them or their motivations and it made the romance a little flat and hard to care about. All in all a good read.
