Description

In the rigid, high-stakes world of Regency society, reputation is everything, and Lady Isabella is the queen of decorum. Bound by the stifling expectations of her title, she is used to playing her part perfectly, hiding her true desires beneath a veneer of aristocratic reserve. Enter the woman who will shatter the status quo: a charming, relentless outsider who refuses to be intimidated by Isabella’s icy persona. What begins as an uneasy clash of wills soon sparks an undeniable, transformative fire. As the two women navigate the treacherous waters of balls, parlor gossip, and forbidden trysts, the dynamic shifts from playful defiance to a profound, soul-deep connection. Their burgeoning romance forces Isabella to confront the difference between the life she was groomed to lead and the life she actually craves. Judith Lynne delivers a masterclass in tension and longing, crafting a story where passion serves as a catalyst for liberation. She Tamed the Lady is more than a romance; it is a daring exploration of self-discovery, the courage to defy convention, and the beautiful, messy process of letting someone in. Prepare to fall for a love story that proves the most daring rebellion is falling for the wrong—and yet, entirely right—person.

Beautiful queer awaking in Regency England

I loved this book! This was a queer awakening, sapphic historical romance set in Regency era England. Lady Charlotte and Delina's story was a delightful read, watching them slowly realize their feelings towards each other and how much they struggled with those feelings felt so realistic. In a time period when homosexuality was certainly not openly discussed with young ladies, it was very believable that they literally wouldn't know what they were feeling or be able to understand them. I wonder if Delina never received a push from Lucinda, if she ever would have understood her own sexuality. Lady Charlotte did seem more aware of her desire for Delina as she was actively repressing her thoughts and feelings - refusing to let herself dwell on any potentially romantic feeling towards her friend and companion. I loved their ending and was so glad that in Charlotte and Delinas happy ending, we also got a happy ending for Delinas mother and siblings too!

Impossible to put down

There is so much to love about this book. You feel Charlotte's struggle to hold herself to standards that are impossible for her. I adore the way the characters gradually understand how their feelings for each other have developed and grown. At a time when women are expected to marry, they carve out their own path. The historical accuracy sets the scene, but these brave women defy society and determine their own future.

Sapphic History FTW!

I loved the mental gymnastics of the main characters slowly realizing how they really feel about each other in a time where the social scripts annihilated ideas outside marriage to men. I also really appreciated the attention to historical detail! Side note, I might be a touch in love with Lucinda. arc.
