Description

In the gritty, neon-soaked shadows of a city on the brink of collapse, survival is no longer a given—it is a brutal, desperate gamble. When a mysterious and rapidly spreading contagion begins to turn the population into something unrecognizable, the boundaries between humanity and monstrosity blur. Amidst the chaos and the encroaching decay, two men find themselves tethered together by the most unlikely of forces: survival. Rotten masterfully weaves a tale of suspense and intimacy, dragging the reader into a world where the air is thick with dread and the stakes are life or death. As the infection ravages everything they once knew, these characters must navigate not just the biological terror stalking the streets, but the complex, hardening edges of their own hearts. It is a story where the apocalypse serves as a crucible, testing the strength of love against the unrelenting backdrop of an societal breakdown. Perfect for readers who crave visceral storytelling and high-octane tension, this standalone entry in the Mayhem Manuscripts universe offers a haunting blend of horror and heartfelt connection. It’s a dark, atmospheric journey that explores how, even when the world goes rotten, the human spirit—and the bonds we forge—might be the only light left in the dark.

One of my favorite books forevermore.

Charon and Hector. What a lead-in for a dystopian tragedy. The Ferryman and the Greek hero. Oh and we can't forget Nyx sweet Queen of eyeballs. I adored this story so much. It was insta-love in a way. The way Charon saw the courage in Hector right from day one. And when you find out the book that Charon has read, a gift from his mother, it will all make so much sense. You will journey with them through blood and tears, with every scar and kiss. And if you are lucky love them as much as I do. And when Nyx tells her epilogue you will cry your own tears for them and unerstand when she says she will watch over them "For as long as I breathe"

Some of the twists were not twisting for me

First, I will start by saying I do like this book. Charon was my favorite. The plot was almost there. The idea of the plot was great. The scene structure and development is the problem for me. Not to get too spoiley, but the big twist in this book makes no sense to me at all. It needed to be fleshed out more. It will likely work for a lot of people, but since I am an editor, these are things that I notice even when I'd much rather suspend disbelief and just enjoy the book. There is a major part in the book that is physically impossible even with rotten blood. Also, "immune" in this world does not mean super human (at least from my understanding). Charon is a regular human man. Silver injections will turn a person blue/grey at best and cause organ failure at worst. It took me out of the scene for a little bit and I had to make myself come back to finish the book after that because I wanted to see the HEA. The main sex scene in this book makes no sense and is completely inappropriate for the things happening all around the MCs during that time. Even with the logic that Hector wanted "retribution" it doesn't make sense for the situation they were in and given that the building was on fire, zombies were everywhere, and (spoiler) *his sister just died right in front of him*, this scene really, really should've been reworked or deleted. Hector even says later that time to escape could've been saved if they hadn't had sex, and he was right. A beautiful sex scene in the…

🐦‍⬛No one will take him away. Not even death. Gods have mercy on anyone who tries🧟‍♂️

"You think saving my life means I'm yours to do with as you please?" He nods, mouthing one word. "Mine." "I almost died, and the monster saved me again." "It's fascinating to me how fragile he looks, and yet there's so much strength in those eyes. I want them trained on me, and only me, forever." "Something about his expression enthralls me and I can't make heads or tails of it. Maybe it's because he's small, yet fierce, like an alley cat. Hector is...pure. Whole." "No one will take him away. Not even death. Gods have mercy on anyone who tries." "The bites will scar, but the idea of Hector branding me. Owning me. Because I've claimed him. And I want to belong to him as much as he belongs to me." "He just holds me tighter, pressing his lips to my curls with a contented sigh. I know he can't speak. But somehow, what he just did for me speaks louder than words ever could." "Someone, somewhere, designed Charon just for me, and I for him. I believe that with my whole heart. Two broken souls who went through hell to find each other." "Now, home has a heartbeat. A laugh, a sharp tongue, and the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen. Hector is home." "Toward home, with my Ferryman at my side. The owner of my rotten soul. Though death had tried to claim it first; it was always his to keep." This was such a phenomenal and emotional story. Every book in this series has been fantastic and tragic. Bree is such a great writer and her words bleed emotion. This story was no…

Creepy and romantic

Creepy, bloody and a good time. Dark themes, a sassy animal sidekick, so many lies and lots of deception in this world of infection and the undead. I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

Fantastic Addition To The Series

This is a Dark Dystopian Romance..like very dark! Please do not skip out on the TWs make sure you take a peek! This is also Book 2 in the 1nf3ction Series. These books are Written as stand alones just happening in the same world so you do not need to read them in order. 🌶🌶🌶 (Spoiler Free Review..very VERY bare Bones) Hector is on the hunt for his sister. She has been gone 10 years since deciding to join the soldiers fighting the virus. The only way to get to Zone T where the soldiers are is by boat...after you have been captured by said soldiers. Hector is up for the challenge though, anything to get to his sister. The only other problem is the Ferryman, the captain of the boat that takes these captured people to either possible Servitude or their death. He is said to be a Vicious "people eater" and under the soldiers control. Charon our Ferryman is not what the rumors paint him to be. He is a gentle (unless provoked) giant who is just living out his own sentence that's been forced onto him, and when he see's Hector board his boat with no fear but determination instead he is instantly captivated by him. There is a slight "accident" on the boat that now leaves Hector in Charon's care and this is his chance to get Hector to see who he really is and the truth about what's going on in Zone T...but it is not as easy as it seems. Hector hasn't been cared for in far to long so learning to trust someone...let alone the Ferryman is a huge hurdle for him. These two broken guys…
